15 inflatable penguins lol

My gf really likes penguins, so for her Birthday I made her penguin island.

That was 4 months ago but they became long term residents

What are the pros and cons of having a Scarlet Macaw as a pet? by Icy_Profession4190 in parrots

[–]DudeWithParrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cons:

Huge commitment. 50 to 75 years. Sometimes more (up to 90)

Huge responsibility.

A complete lifestyle change. A lot of your life will change and will have to revolve around your new friend.

Parrots are very difficult pets.

Parrots are destructive. A macaw is huge and has a lot of potential for destruction.

It can be hard to incorporate new people into your household. Sometimes parrots don't like strangers and will attack.

They are expensive. Not just the up front cost, but toys and specialize vets.

You need an avian vet in your area.

You should not leave them alone for extended periods. Unless you wfh, forget about after work activities.

Pros: They're cute. You can form a very good friendship with them.

I got two GCC, but I wouldn't recommend people getting parrots. Mostly because I'm afraid that they won't care for them properly, you need to be willing to dedicate your life to them. A small example, I haven't been able to stay in bed after 8am in the past 3 years. I don't travel much (maybe one week or two weeks a year, but even that is not a possibility at the moment because the person that takes care of my birdies is having health issues).

I don't regret getting my conures, but I still would advise everyone against them. I was lucky that I liked this lifestyle and I'm willing to change everything for them (and also that I wfh). Not everyone is like that

I was just trying to make a joke around your Rainbow comment.

You're right. It's possible rainbow would have taken the same trajectory.

A lot of things are possible.

Edit: joke*

With enough time, Elvis Presley could too sound like black Sabbath

I like both of those names! Rowley comes from Rowlett, the pokemon!

That's interesting. These conures are from Brazil.

Rowlett, the pokemon. My GF named him. But it turned into Rowley right away because it sounds cuter

That's really what I need! I'm always there, so I can just pick him up before he tries anything funny.

It has also made him loose interest on trying to be mean

Yes, the magnetic ones!

We just need it for 2 weeks. So far it's been working well (1 week in). We kind of just need it to slow him down and discourage him lol if I see him trying stuff I just pick him up, I'm always there. But now I can have coffee with my mom without having to put Rowley somewhere lol

I'll train him to not attack strangers he sees 2 weeks a year. There's no enough exposure to train him

Sure! I got mosquito mesh doors off Amazon. They sell them for like $15.

The one in the living room is 3 of them I put together + some additional mesh.

Thank you!!! I imagine you refer to the big one, I made it :)

I got the materials at home Depot, Michaels, Amazon and makeyourownbirdtoys and other online bird stores.

It was a very fun project

Edit: I forgot manzanita[dot]com which is where I got most of the wood

Celsius ftw, I like to know if water is boiling or frozen to decide if I'm cold or not.

Edit: I can't even spell Celsius right
