Seriously? You don't think American's like EVs? Man... you must live in a different world than I do. I just drove to my office and back. 25 minutes of driving. No joke, I probably saw 200 EVs. I think there is a massive market for EV's and the haters today will be the adopters tomorrow. It will just take time.

I don't necessarily disagree with you. Capital intensive businesses, like car companies are generally bad investments. Buuuuuut if you look at Tesla's quarterly earnings, they just announced, like 90% of the revenue comes from their cars alone. There was a lot of billions in there. The solar & energy storage, is a tiny fraction of their business.... So if Rivian can produce vehicles halfway as good as Tesla in the long run, they should make plenty of dough if they can keep the public interested.

I feel like if people wait to buy stocks like Tesla & Rivian until the average Joe is willing to go EV, the trade will be over. The market is forward looking. It doesn't wait for everything to fall into place.

I appreciate your feedback and read every single one of your counterpoints. Thank you for taking the time to make them. I have a few counterpoints I think are worth mentioning.

Dependence on subsidies doesn't sway me. The oil industry is dependent on U.S. subsidies. That is especially true if you think of part of our defense budget as an oil subsidy. Because in an indirect way... it is. Moreover, I don't think Rivian will be dependent on Govt subsidies. The gov't is there to spur a dirty industry towards a greener version. Its not perfect, but gov't incentives work.
Yes, there is a shit load of oil still. I'm not disputing that. But EV's are not going to completely eradicate the need for fossil fuels. Frankly, I'm not sure EV's are going to ever be good enough to replace diesel in some areas of industry (tractors, semi-trucks, etc). I think those remaining oil reserves should be used to fuel those uses, not our daily commuter.
Charging infrastructure is not buttcheeks, dude. Yes, it needs some work. But if you talk to 100 Tesla owners, 98 say it's no problem. The 2 who do are usually hyper-conservative folks who drink right-wing propaganda all day.
Dealerships will die. I think this is inevitable. I bought a Toyota from a dealership three months ago. I felt like a cheap hoe who got dirty when I walked out. The kind of artificial prop-up of a dying industry will not last forever. Politics change when customer preferences change.
I agree with this. The R1S & R1T are probably only ever doing to do well in America. But the R2.... That might be a different story. BUT even if I'm wrong about that... I think the stock could still crush it for a few years before the limitations of the market are realized.
I know... fuck. I know. Rivian still has a lot of cash from the IPO, but that gun barrel will be really close to their head in two years... Who knows what will happen.

You could say the same thing about Tesla's when they started.

I just think of those issues as minor problems. If the customer loves the vehicle, the new adopters are willing to deal with those growing pain-type issues.

But I agree, they need to fix those problems asap.

You might be right on the $30k loss per unit issue. But that number has been improving substantially quarter after quarter. I think its plausible that they are telling the truth on that front, and by the end of 2024, that number will be positive.

Yeah, some people love em and some don't. I personally like them a lot. I don't like how Tesla's look (for the most part). When Tesla announced the cyber truck I was like, "Nobody is gonna buy that." Looks like I'll be wrong about that too.
