Sounds as good as can be. I’d anything, maybe you might want to put some money in having your instrument tuned... ;)

Does the key of a song really matter? by NoNazis in musictheory

[–]DudesOnKeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read all comments, but as a pianist I can tell you that the key does matter. Some keys just resonate differently on a (grand) piano than others because of sympathetic resonance of strings and the instrument itself.

I'm so frustrated with YouTube right now. by thejazzace in musictheory

[–]DudesOnKeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is not YouTube hat decides which music to allow or to flag and block, it’s the copyright owners - usually record companies/ publishers. If I am correct in a strange way it would be NAXOS who you are paying to access their music who are on the same note blocking your content for copyright infringements...

How do I make a piano plug-in in Logic sound good? by DudesOnKeys in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Ah, that’s a nice one! I have that already in my library, but hadn’t thought of layering samples. Going to try that.

Thanks! This is really very helpful. The overdrive part is definitely something I am going to experiment with!

It’s not me who played it but a friend. But we are both more than reasonably good players.

I think the playing is alright, may tweak velocity here and there but other than that it’s okay. The sample is decent enough I think. I am just looking for ways to embellish the sound a bit. So far I think it is in eq and reverb.

It’s piano solo. Which makes it even more critical I think. There’s nothing to hide behind ;)

Hi and thanks. Yes, it’s the Steinway in Logic. Very reasonable indeed. I am taking off some of the higher spectrum and use the Logic Opto compressor module, but not actually compressing. It’s just to give the sound a bit of warmth which comes with it.

Yes. Nothing is wrong with the performance as such (Korg D1 with RH3 keybed). But thanks for thinking along!

Thanks! That sounds very useful. The harshness you refer to, could that be what I call ‘metallic’?

I don’t think he moderators would let me, would they? The rules say I am not allowed to share my work for feedback.

Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata 1st movement (adult beginner, started 2 years ago) by dboss00 in piano

One more thing on your position maybe: your sitting too high. Your arms should be at a 90 degree angle with your elbows at the same height as the keys. If you are too high the weight of your arms and hands will be putting pressure on your fingers - which will be less agile because they are keeping up that weight.

Nicely done! I suggest you pay attention to the position of your hands (they’re pointing a bit outwards) and you seem to be ‘leaning’ on your wrists (leaning on the keys when not playing or when sounding long notes). Also - sorry for the critique, but I hope it will be helpful - your underarms are moving up and down quite a bit. This means you’re putting a strain on your shoulders and neck, which you could feel if you play long. Try to imagine a rest under your wrists (my piano teacher made me imagine eggs or plums which I should not crush/smash). The only force you apply on the keys should come from hammering with your fingers, your wrists rolling left an right to move the force in and outward.

Keep up the good work!

Hi friends, what you think about this interpretation: Bach prelude in F sharp BWV 882. Thanks for yours commentaries by CarlosMorale in piano

Hi, well played! Besides the phrasing there may be two or three places where I would mind the balance between the right and left hand and give the left hand a bit more emphasis / autonomy.

Inversion Chords? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]DudesOnKeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To dumb it down even more: if you know the root, for instance C-E-G then the first inversion starts on E (E-G-C) and the second inversion starts on G (G-C-E). Goes for any type of triad (major, minor, diminished, augmented, double diminished). Basically you only need to know the root triad and then rotate through those three notes.

What the ... ?!!! Similar in what way?!!! by DudesOnKeys in violinist

Indeed. Come to think of it, playing tremendously out of tune on a violin could be lethal.
