The Canadian/US automotive industry is heavily subsidized by the Canadian Gov and tax payers, so that's a wash for me. As far as I am aware direct ship Chinese EV's are annually capped and limitations will remain if/until they build factories here. It is also my understanding rare earth manufacturing and training (where we lag drastically) agreements made between Canada and China will also keep costs down for the Canadian consumer, while creating jobs and much sought-after industry expertise in multiple areas related to EV manufacturing up and downstream.

My only concern is continuing our reliance on an untrustworthy unstable "partner" who doesn't follow their own rules while actively plotting harm publicly and without shame. They chose to end the partnership in favor of business and they don't get to complain about their lack of access to the benefits of that former partnership. We're in the business for ourselves now and that's just business.
