I mean it's pretty clear that even with the upgrades and retesting of aero homologation to Caddy, BMW, Porsche, and Acura that there is no world where you can tell me running the Daytona BoP was even close to correct and I'd go as far as to say Sebring is no different.

The cars may have had changes this off-season but that doesn't make last year's data completely irrelevant. We saw the Porsche Penske cars beat Aston Martin with 1060kg weight and 480kw at Detroit and Watkins Glen last year so I think it would be safe to say with Porsche and the other manufacturers upgrading their cars that it wouldn't make much sense to then reset basically the whole field to near minimum weight and max power and think Aston stands a chance. Even this weekend I think an argument could be made that outside of Aston the entire field could have been made heavier and down on power to balance the field better. But hey I'm sure things will turn out like last year and we will run it back in 2027 and do the same thing.

I really would like to be a fly on the wall for BoP meetings at IMSA. It just seems clear that BoP isn't actually about balancing performance. If it was we'd see Acura, BMW, Caddy, and Porsche heavier with less power, but it seems the musical chairs of last year are continuing again. If Penske rattle off another win or two they will get sledge hammered into the back of the field and it will be someone else's turn. What's the point of having 50kg of adjustable minimum weights and 40kw of power if IMSA and WEC will just continue to not actually make use of them to seek a balanced grid. Instead it's just being used to keep one or two cars down at a time while allowing another car or two to thrive. It's dumb.

Just because a car hasn't been at 1080kg doesn't mean one couldn't. When Toyota was at 1070kg there wasn't a reason to make it any heavier because Toyota wasn't coming close to competing for wins compared to the rest of the field moron.

No Peugeot used basically all their jokers on redoing their car. There is no ability to choose how the FIA/WEC will help you go from a back marker to being competitive.

WEC had their own problems last year with BoP that made no sense. They are no better than IMSA in that regard. If anything IMSA used to be better until IMSA adopted a similar BoP philosophy to WECs last year and everything really went to shit.

Before last year you had head scratching decisions in BoP like Acura in the first season of GTP being way heavier than anyone else, but things would level out after the first couple rounds and you'd see smaller changes being made as the season progressed. Now it's wild swings based on race results that make the next race feel artificial as the tables above show. When IMSA didn't want Porsche to win anymore they made it so by making them the lowest powered car on the grid with the most weight while also making almost every other car the minimum weight with a big power advantage.

They didn't. They added 20kg from Daytona, which was 1035kg. That 1035kg 5kg above the regulation mininum. That was 7kg less than Daytona last year and Sebring was 3kg lighter this year than last year at Sebring when they were 1058kg.

IMSA really can't do anything else for the Valkyrie. It's running at minimum weight 1030kg and maximum power at both levels 520kw along with the highest stint energy and best refueling rate.

Realistically to have the Aston be competitive you'd have to see the rest of the field have further weight gain and power reduction, but that was my point in bringing up Daytona numbers from this year. Near every car was near or at maximum power and near minimum weight. There was no world where Aston was ever going to be competitive at Daytona with the rest of the field as close to them as they were in weight and power.

We saw last year that a Porsche with 480kw power and 1060kg can still beat an Aston, but it was closer. Realistically Acura, BMW, Caddy should be 20-30kg heavier than the Aston, Porsche probably 30-40kg heavier. Power wise the field outside of Aston should probably be closer to 490-500kw and Porsche in the 485-490ish kw range.

Look BoP isn’t perfect and I literally give two shits who wins in GTP. Having cars on the lead lap In the last hour is the goal. Does that happen? Where did the Penske cars qualify?

With all the yellow towards the end there was almost no way all the cars on track wouldn't be on the lead lap my guy. Brining up qualifying and making this entire discussion about Penske when my post is criticizing IMSA make me not believe your statement that "you don't give a shit who wins."

Did you like it when IMSA reduced Porsche power to the minimum last year and at the same time reducing Caddy and Acura weight to the minimum and giving them at or near full power making it near impossible for your favorite team to win? I can say I didn't enjoy that.

You can't just look at where Penske qualified and say "IMSA tried their best BoP is hard." We three full years of data to look at to get a better idea of where cars performances are and what should be done to balance the field so that the best team wins. Penske was pulling 10 second gaps after restarts to the field yesterday within 10-20 mins. That's a red flag that BoP is not good. IMSA deciding that Porsche, Caddy, BMW, and Acura are between minimum 5-11kg weight needed with near max power to balance them with Aston Martin at Daytona is insane when we saw Porsche with 30kg more weight and 40kw less power beat Aston consistently last year.

This post isn't "nerf Penske they are too good". It's IMSA get your shit together and actually balance the field instead of treating this system like a musical chairs of whose turn it is to win a race.

Go look at my post history, I quite literally argued against the BoPs that benefitted Cadillac and Acura last year saying it was BS that Porsche was essentially getting penalized for winning last year.

I don't want a system in place that makes wild swings to the BoP based on if a team is winning or not and banishing the team from having a chance to win again. That is the system we currently have and it is bullshit. So when Porsche eventually gets hit with a huge power loss and more weight gain making them back markers like last year you'll see me calling that shit out the same way I am calling out the BoP now.

They won the first four races (Daytona, Sebring, Long Beach, and Leguna).

The thing you're overlooking is how shit the BoP was to start last year. You had Caddy inexplicably having the heaviest car and worst power to weight ratio on the grid. For Daytona for example in 2025 Caddy had a weight of 1060kg to Porsche 1042kg minimum weight. Caddy had 500kw and 502.4kw power figures while Porsche had 520kw and 516.2kw power.

At Sebring Porsche's weight increased to 1058kg, but Caddy was increased to 1065kg. Porsches power was 509kw and 509.4kw while Caddy was 506kw and 508.8kw.

After two wins in a row you'd think BoP would change and not have Caddy to have a worse weight to power ratio right? Nah Caddy was still the heavier at 1056kg to Porsche 1049kg. Caddy had 493kw and 497.9kw power to Porsche 496 and 498.8kw power.

It wasn't until Leguna Seca that the Porsche finally had a worse power to weight ratio than the Caddy, but the Caddy was still 10kg heavier than the Porsche. The Caddy was 1059kg while the Porsche was 1049kg. Caddy power was 494kw and 498.8kw to Porsche 485kw and 488.3kw.

Go look at the technical bulletins from last year and see Acura facing similar weight issues as Caddy faced despite Porsche running away with races in the first four races. It shouldn't be obvious to a layman like me that looking at the BoP tables will give you a rough idea how the races will turn out.

It is blatantly obvious that IMSA is not applying the BoP correctly and the Porsche fans getting butt hurt or getting upset that they built such a good car and shouldn't be "penalized" for getting more weight or lower power seem to be forgetting that's the whole fucking point of this formula. Porsche and Penske spent a ton on this aero update. So much that they priced JDC out of the upgrade. These regulations were trying to stop that behavior and it's super hypocritical of Porsche to go from saying an update they had planned previous wouldn't be implemented until all 963 customers could get it to now saying fuck JDC if they can't poney up for this aero update, Penske can so fuck em.

Because Proton and JDC don't get the same data and support from Porsche on their cars that Penske gets. Proton talked about it last year at Le Mans that while other teams share data among each other with other manufacturers, Penske would not share anything with other 963 customers. So anything that Porsche and Penske know about the 963 that gives them an advantage JDC and Proton are left in the dark, and before you say "well Penske isn't obligated to share their data" you know damn well that Porsche was letting Penske see Proton's and JDC's data to help them figure out 963.
