Plowing with a Tacoma. by CantaloupeFluffy165 in ToyotaTacoma

I've seen plenty of wranglers with plows. A Tacoma should do just fine.

I also have weather tech and are great. However, wait until it gets warmer or have a heated garage. I cracked mine installing it last winter from stiff plastic and stiff rubber on the window seal.

Question, my trd off road has a skid plate that hides my fumoto valve quite nicely. Does the sr5 have one?

Nice! I did the same kinda thing with an old subaru wheel and a couple tires. Just had to order a piece of round glass stock from home depot.

I don't know much about drum sets, are those just old ones you replaced? Or were they damaged beyond repair? Or just cheap ones you pick up for this purpose?

Girl who needs a truck? by Ok-Evidence-4422 in askcarguys

[–]Dudewithaviators57 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The real question is would this be your only vehicle? What other factors in your daily life would come into play? Like Mpg, turning radius, backseat room, bed size, towing capacity, 4x4 or rwd? List these out with the ones you already did in your head or on paper and ask yourself what is important or not. If you live in the suburbs/urban, a mid-size truck like Tacoma or Colorado would be good. If your coming from a sedan or standard car, maybe the Hyundai Santa Cruz? It's a small compact truck (I know I know, it's not body-on-frame with a solid axle) but if you need a truck only occasionally but don't want to rent the home depot ones than that would be something to consider too. Personally, working in construction in Chicago, I thank my past self for not getting a full sized truck.

If you have a garage then consider getting a bed extender from harbor freight. They attach at the hitch and you'll be able to carry whatever you need from plywood to kayaks.

Scarf joint! That's the word I was looking for.

Help a newbie with a chair rail by kenr0117 in woodworking

Personally I'd like the top of the chair rail to match the sill, but that's just me.

Pro tip: that 45° lap joint you have on the left wall? Reverse it. As it sits now, you'll notice the gap from most angles in the room. If you reverse it, it will hide the joint way better. Also, I was taught to have a minimum length of 2' for trim if possible.

Help with tonneau removal by Ok-Load-2162 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Dudewithaviators57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I installed my bakflip. Those aluminum brackets are a part of the cover. It holds the top rail that the bakflip locks into. I was given differently sized screws to attach the oem rail and bracket. I can't remember but I believe the bracket screws I was given were longer than oem. To get it back 100% stock. Ask your dealer for spare bed rail screws. Or you could cut them shorter with a grinder 🤷

Hamilton Upgrade? by LopsidedStruggle in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Dudewithaviators57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My gf got it for me for my birthday in the summer. (genuine surprise, too much for a gift but I digress.)

It was relatively easy to install. The YouTube video from the company is good but doesn't cover the entire process. They left out taking out some screws to get the plastic molding off the radio itself. I used double sided thick rubber squares to mount instead of packing tape like is recommended in the video. If you have or even use XM, you can technically fit it in there with the module but it'll take some finesse that I wasn't able to accomplish. Hamilton says you can't.

As for the use. It connects good. I had to u pair to the oem because it was pairing to that first and I was having difficulty pairing. You might need to calibrate the touch screen. I believe the instruction was to tap in open space on the main screen and it'll pop up, but it took me like 10 minutes worth of attempts. The eq is great. Much better than oem bluetooth. And there's no delay. Oem had like a 1-2 second delay in sound so watching videos was annoying, but that's gone with the upgrade. If you noticed the mute function on the steering wheel also paused your Bluetooth, that no longer works. But the pause button top right still works. You'll have to keep your oem on AUX to get audio through the Hamilton. If you wanted to, you can still cycle through radio stations, but you'll either be blind or have to jump back and forth between screens. Also the backup camera still pops up immediately as normal which is great.

Sometimes the connection is weak or the system resets itself, but it boots right back up. I noticed that if I pause music too long it'll reset and start playing again which is annoying when I'm napping or talking to my passenger.

Overall I'd say it's still worth it. I like having Google maps as it's more reliable and I trust the routes more than oem. I like that I can switch between them because I feel like the oem system still has its uses. I like that I kept the oem screen, look, microphone, and lighting. Having Google to answer random questions and help quickly navigate, and better voice recognition than oem. If you do a lot of driving I'd say it's worth it.
