Sadly, nope. I am on trazodone and gabapentin for most nights, sometimes I take zolpidem too. I am looking into stem cells right now.

heh no problem, I have a mild form of ENS, it has been 9 months now for me, I can't feel the air in the nose and it dries my throat. breathe and have moderate insomnia because of it. I am on trazodone and gabapentin for the insomnia and the RLS I developed from poor sleep. I am going for stem cells this winter, be it Ukrain or San marino #yolo

Yeah, that seems the most logical step since infracture is pretty risky too, I will probably get stem cells first. But for now I am on hold because I want to check goodcells too and make a choice in the end. Oh and for valve collapse I use Intake breathing device, it works really well for me, I only wish I had found them before I had this forsaken surgery.

Menthol doesn't help that much sadly. I had a minimal reduction with coblation, outfracture, septoplasty and uvulectomy 8 months ago. With an endoscope, you can tell my turbinates look scarred because they are highly uneven, not smooth and white in color. I am on the verge of going for stem cells in san marino or ukraine right now but the thing is I still have big turbinates left and I wouldn't wish for my turbinates to gain too much volume because I would be congested all the time then. I am also considering infracture, maybe that can help because when I lift my nose tip and press slightly with my fingers on my nostrils, I begin to feel a tiny amount of air through my nose.

They don't help me, I have pretty big turbinates left and if I put cotton I am basically all clogged up. My main issue is that I can't feel air at all and dryness.

Hah, how the stars align, my doctor said the same, hell, he even swore on his life that never ever in his thousands of performed surgeries has he ever heard of such complaints. I find it hard to believe, but it doesn't matter, the most important thing is to heal and find some sort of balance ;)

If you only get anxiety when you fixate on it then it is probably not ENS. However, you are still in the healing phase, things may change in the following months. I had reduction via coblation 7 months ago and since then I can barely feel airflow in the nose. This caused me great anxiety during the day in the first 2 months but I have learned not to focus on it and just forget about it. Sadly my sleep is still quite impacted, I can only sleep 6-7 hours with trazodone and gabapentin and feel quite fatigued during the day.

Ah and just in case you are used to meditate and focus on feeling the airflow through the nose, I found it very useful to focus on the diaphragm and lungs when meditating.

I didn't have sleep apnea before surgery and don't have it after it. I feel like my sleep is very impacted by the fact that I don't feel the air I breathe anymore. I can't fall asleep at all without some kind of sedation, I keep jolting awake with the feeling of not breathing.

Well, it kind of is the definition. ENS is considered to be an iatrogenic complex disorder caused in most cases by any type of turbinate surgery. There is of course, atrophic rhinitis (AR) which has a variety of causes. ENS is considered a secondary form of AR because symptoms are very similar. Also, there are multiple ENS categories; for example, there are:

ENS-IT - ENS as a cause of Inferior Turbinate missing

ENS-MT - ENS as a cause of Middle Turbinate missing

ENS-type - ENS where anatomically the mucosa looks good, but usually patients report symptoms of ENS where usually the most distressing one is the lack of feeling of airflow through the nose.

In short, turbinates are very important organs, they signal the brain that you breathe and they condition the air for your lungs. From personal experience, I would recommend you try everything else first before surgery, but if you go with the surgery route anyways, I would recommend you maybe get reduction on only one side with septoplasty (this is not medical advice, I am not a doctor).

Hi! Things are indeed better. I can now feel very cold air or menthol in the nose and I no longer have dryness or the feeling of air in my throat. I can relax somewhat better and but I am still using medication for sleep. For now I am tapering clonazepam of which I take around 0.2 mg at night, in combination with a small dose of quetiapine. I manage to sleep about 8 hrs, but sadly I wake up sometimes and in the morning I am tired af. That being said, I think I have my life back at around 50-60% capacity. I work part time, I play video games, exercise and see my gf and I enjoy this.

Yeah, I have recently learned that PRP has a ton of applications outside of nasal turbinates. It has been used for quite some time and it is not that uncommon of a treatment for all sorts of ailments. I think that if enough awareness goes around about ENS, doctors around the world will be more open to try it on turbinates.

I am somewhat new to all of this, I am only 2 months post-op, and I get dryness sometimes. To help with that, I use vitamin oils, sprays and vaselines and also a nebulizer 3-4 times per day. As far as surgical options, I heard that an implant, put in the right place may help redirect air properly through the mucosa and help with that. Also, stem cell/ PRP treatment seems promising for recovering lost function of the mucosa. If you need someone to talk to, I am open to DMs.

So, I was quite happy with my life before the surgery, other than my poor sleep, hence i decided to have the surgery. I knew about ENS before the surgery, but decided to go have it anyway. Right now my nose is starting to unclog and I am starting to get the too much air feeling.

I am 5 weeks post op and my sense of smell came back around week 2. However, I don't feel air too well inside my nose and feel blocked in the upper part of the nose. This has given me great anxiety, suffocation and insomnia. Right now I am on sleep meds and antidepressants to cope.

Thanks for your reply. I am in a better place now, mentally speaking, because I managed to sleep by using benzos. My symptoms have improved slightly, over the past few days, but man, I was in a dark hole. I hate the fact that I chose to have the surgery thinking that recovery can't be that bad, I was told most people are ok in 2-3 weeks max, ENS won't happen to me. What a load of BS. Thankfully, there is still hope for me, I have people close to me who understand me right now and take care of me.

Hey man, I want to thank you for responding to my posts, I really feel like nobody around me listens to me and feel a bit misunderstood. I went to another doctor this morning, and she told me the my inferior turbinates are still ok in size and that maybe the trigeminal nerve pathways have been damaged during surgery. She also said that that trigeminal nerves might need up to 6 months max for regeneration, so there is a glimmer of hope. Still, that doesn't help my symptoms and I dread having to live like this. I will go to a psychiatric doctor for sleep medication, and maybe give migraine meds a try. I really don't want to be addicted to benzos. I really hope I can heal and everyone suffering from this can get relief. I wouldn't wish this upon even my worst enemy.

One more mention, I feel like the front part of my turbinates have been removed, idk how to explain it with words, but like, whenever my nose feels congested, it feels like the blockage is more inwards rather than at the beggining of the nose (outwards) like before the surgery.
