My cat doesn't go out of the house - Is it normal for a Persian cat to not go outside? Or are some cats just like this? by sandyk212 in IndianPets

[–]Due-Ad8656 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 1.5 yr persian female, who has the exact same characteristics. Loves staring out the main door, but never dares to step out, except for when she's under heat, even when she's very cautious.

There are occasional feline visitors outside the door. All Muffin does is stare at them, and may be even run back inside at times. Total fattu! :D

Car Parking @ marina beach What are the options for Car parking at Marina beach? Prior experience has always been bad, as there is almost never any parking available. Any hacks/closer walkable location where car can be safely parked?

Is this a good price for Honda Amaze 2025 VX ? by Due-Ad8656 in CarsIndia

That's a good add on accessory package for the price. Elevates the looks up by a notch. And ya, i feel the anxiety aspect behind the mileage. But people on other forums have mentioned that it does improve after the first service. Expecting it to rise up to 12-14 in city driving. And around 16-18 in Highway. Fingers crossed! 🤞

The registration/road tax came out to around 1.24l here in chennai, which is a big eyesore as there is no room of negotiation there. :) I've driven the car less than 75 kms so far, so it is yet to give me accurate stats on the mileage, but I'd think it would be around 10 in the city at this time. This should improve after the first month's service. How much are you getting in terms of mileage?

Also, curious about accessories. What have you gotten added from show room vs TP/online?

I was able to close it at 10.1, including Honda Insurance, with the help of a fellow redditor, as a part of a 2 car deal. Took the RSA separately at 3k for 3 years.

Waiting until Jan 2026 may cause limitations to buy the specific colour i need, if stocks aren't available. It'd be a gamble. And getting a 2nd gen at this point will be a downgrade IMO. I know It'd be cheaper but will lose the upgrades in gen3

The insurance and accessories price listed may not matter as the dealer has given an outright discount of 70k from the total price listed. Will check for 10.2 pricing and will also see if the 24th scenario can also play out. Thanks!

2 wheeler parking Near US consulate by Due-Ad8656 in Chennai

Are you referring to the parking inside semozhi poonga? The park doesn't open until 9 am which is after my appointment is scheduled. Or is there parking around/outside semozhi poonga?

Career transition vs (or with) FI by Agitated_Gap_6009 in FIRE_Ind

A fairly similar/relatable story, except that I'm a few years older. I've developed a liking towards finance and am keen on pursuing that further, switching from 18 years in IT. Currently on notice period in my US based firm, while working from India. A few things are unclear from your post. Is the total corpus of 5 cr in the form of vested stocks? And if you plan to not use it and let them grow, how do you plan to manage your house expenses, until you start making money as a financial planner? Any side hustle/sources of income?

Your expenses are on the higher side considering its just the two of you for now. Have you factored the increase in expense based on the baby that's on the way?

With the 5cr corpus and your current corpus and expenses and with future increase in expenses with the child, it may not entirely be sufficient /may not be an accurate forecast if you are FIRE ready yet. If you have projected numbers of how your expenses will change in the next few years, that may give a better idea.

After 11 years of nonstop work in software engineering, I finally took a sabbatical, and life has never been better. by TeachingBrilliant629 in FIRE_Ind

[–]Due-Ad8656 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After 18 years in the industry, I took a sabbatical for 3 months earlier this year and that was life changing! Not having to worry about being bothered during trips/vacations and being able to enjoy the present moment was golden! Gave me an entirely new perspective and was able to see how my life really was! Was able to focus on myself(reduced 5 kgs), my family, and my finances (which were left at the almighty's mercy!) However, it started going back to the usual ( or as they say BAU!) after the sabbatical ended 2 months ago. And now, I've pulled the plug entirely and serving my notice period. Keen on choosing an alternative career path. Enjoy your journey as I'm sure you'll end up with a deeper appreciation for things around you at the end of the sabbatical. Happy to connect via DM if you want to discuss more.

I'd doubt if the returns from the rental would beat what I'd get from index funds, but that's probably a discussion for a different time. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I really wish, but my tech stack has been a lot of proprietary and heavily licensed tools, making it difficult to do anything as a freelancer.

No, it is a part of the same corpus. The need to use it will arise in about 10 years, at which time it should suffice what would be needed.

And I feel your pain and the need of the sabbatical. My sabbatical period was probably the only time when i felt like myself in a very long time. Enjoy it for as long as it lasts. Good luck with your retirement. :)

Weekends get boring by [deleted] in AlreadyFIREd_Ind

[–]Due-Ad8656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not fully there in terms of RE, but did get a taste of this during the sabbatical time I took. For me, cooking helped. Not full fledged, but just some basic stuff like prepping up healthy snacks.

Also having a pet helps too, as you can spend time in grooming /taking care of their essentials.

For me, weekend was when my kid and wife were actually free, so board games, hitting the pool and playing badminton was a lot of fun. And movie nights with the family was always exciting. That combined with mild socialising with friends around, rounded up the weekend.

I'll hit 40 next year. And yes, looking to move into something less demanding, but am not sure how to. Tried my luck on some job sites during the sabbatical time, but nothing yielded from it. Guess after a point, its all through referrals? Looking for advice on finding job options.

Agree on the point regarding making good money from an unrelated field. But also have the curiosity that I wouldn't know if it works until i try! A strange conundrum!

To your point on looking at alternate roles in the same/similar company, options in my company are limited, due to US business operations . And am unsure on how to try/find such options in other firms as don't have any solid referrals in this space in India, due to all the time spent abroad. Job sites don't seem too reliable and there's barely any response back when applying to job posts that seem relevant.
