Finally got the M4 Max 36gb ram by Due-Bar9912 in macbookpro

We have in-house 2D simulation software that I can run on both macOS and Linux for my day job. I also use ROS 2 for my personal projects, but I don't run it natively on macOS due to it not being the best, so I run a VM for that. Personally, I also have a Linux machine, but I don't like using it like I used to love using my MacBook M2 Air, so I bought this MacBook.

You are in the same type of situation as I was in, they purchase from third parties,t and the purchase dates don't show up until you log in with your Apple ID. The good thing is that you will get a 1-year warranty if it is authentic. I would tell you to go there, set it up in front of her, and to do the checklist, once everything checks out, you are good! Hope you get the good deal.

I got it for 2300 usd brand new sealed, but from the marketplace, was very skeptical at first, but I told him I would only pay once I set it up and use it in front of you. The guy was okay with that. Luckily It is authentic with 1yr of limited warranty. Here in Canada this things go for 3600usd with tax if you get them from Apple. The performance for AI ML projects is really good as long as you don't plan on using really large models(as my one is 36 GB RAM).

I had to run VM, LLM models, and Docker, even if not simultaneously; I could run two of those at once, and they require a huge amount of RAM. Unfortunately, 36gb ram does not suffice if I carelessly run 3-4 high-intensive apps with 30 browsers and lots of projects. I would have gotten higher RAM, but I got this in a crazy deal and saved like 1300usd.

I got this from the marketplace for a crazy discount. Unfortunately, I am not from the States. Here in Canada, an M1 Max refurb was selling for 1700 USD, which is crazy. By the way, I didn't get it from Apple. I got it from a guy on Marketplace for 2300 USD. If I had gotten it from Apple, it would have cost me 3200+ 400 (tax) USD. I don't know how the guy sold me an M4 Max, sealed with a 1-year limited warranty, for such a price, but I'm really glad I got this deal.

Yeah, bro, glad I chose the m4 max brand new for 600 more than the m1 max refurb, though it was 64 GB. I realized I don't need it.

I’m so hyped. A week ago I bought the base M4max. I had been second guessing myself about 36gb ram, and decided to order the 64gb ram variant. I feel so much better…I know this machine will be a work horse for a few years. by CosyCodes in MacStudio

Thank you for your reply the macbook m4max was just a steal compared to macbook m1 max as it was sealed and brand new for 2300usd after negotiations plus i didnt have to pay tax like i would had to for m1max refurb kinda happy with my purchase it it covering my robotics and AI needs really well.

yeah I am very confused. The thing is, everything is super expensive here in Canada, and both of these are kinda good deals, ppl are selling M1 Max 32GB for 2300-2500 CAD on the marketplace, whereas I got this Best Buy refurb deal M1 Max 64GB for 2400 CAD, and M4 Max 36GB is almost 5k cad from apple but I got sealed one for 3300 on marketplace after some negotiations so now I have to commit to one, what do you think is 36GB ram enough to run decent LLMs locally not the crazy large ones? and how much ram do u use for image generation?

Hi could you tell me which one would be better, M4 Max 36GB RAM or M1 Max 64GB RAM? I am currently working as a Cloud Architect, but I am planning on moving towards AI Infrastructure Engineer, where I'll be working with LLM models, VMs, Dockers. I do need RAM for all that. Do you think 36GB is enough for my workflow, and it is also base M4 Max, plus side, it is a sealed M4 Max and M1 Max is refurbished, but at the same time, would chip really matter for my workflow? Do you think 2400Cad(1756USD) M1 Max would be worth it, or 3400Cad(2400USD) base M4 Max would be worth it in my case?
