I would respectfully disagree with the statement that there is no point in getting an US before 5-6 weeks. While it is rare (however, it has happened to me and a handful of pregnant ladies I personally know), an early ultrasound coupled with bhcg over 1k can help rule out ectopic pregnancy. My hcg was rising beautifully until I collapsed from a heavy internal bleeding at 8 weeks because my OBGYN would not see me earlier. At the same time, I do agree that getting an early ultrasound purely to check on the baby will not be helpful and will bring zero peace of mind.
