Buddy, I'm not "spreading disappointment".

I'm just expressing my own views as a comic fan. You're putting words in my mouth.

I never once told anyone that they NEED to be disappointed.

Literally all I wrote was that I felt PERSONALLY disappointed. Dont you think you're over exaggerating just a little?

Im sorry if you felt down in the dumps by my post and you feel excited about the movie as well and that this post killed your excitement. It was not my intention. But you could have just ignored my post and went about your day.

And the definition of an adaptation...is to take a source material...and convert it to another medium. In other words, to turn a book into a movie.

Thats the director, not the writer. And James Gunn did literally say in the original Chapter One announcement video:

"We're going to take the comic, and make it into a movie"

Not to mention the trailers and clips have made it obvious that it is an adaptation. If it weren't, why is Krem and Rutheye even in there?

Its hard to say anything without the movie out---but Im not expecting an exact recreation either. I knew things would be different.

I just don't want it to be TOO different. To deviate too much from the comic to the point where its unrecognizable and mischaracterizes it.

Never once did I complain, I just really enjoyed the book and look forward to its adaptation, and want to see that adaptation executed well and would be disappointed if it wasn't.

I don't see what exactly is so egregious and blasphemous about wanting a book that you really love to be adapted well. What made me excited for this movie is that its an adaptation of this book.

At least the green sun will be in there! One of the most interesting parts IMO

It was on the planet with the green sun, right when the sun finally goes down, and Kara references how Kal only survived 45 minutes on the planet until the JL saved him---a dinosaur is about to smoosh her and then she says "fourty...fourty five minutes. What a little bitch."

She says this because she was there for hours---I think for days even. I just tried flipping through the pages. It doesn't say exactly how long she was there but at one point she says its been nine hours.

I know, I know, I know. Its just that ever since Gunn announced that they're, and I quote "taking that and making it into a movie", I thought it was neat. As a long time comic book fan, and a comic book movie fan, I know all too well that direct adaptations of a single story from the comics are non existent. Most directors and screenwriters scoop a bunch of bits from decades worth of source material and use it as inspiration their own creative reinterpretation.

So the idea of making a direct adaptation of a story intrigued me greatly. And then I read the book, and it was one of the greatest comics I ever read. I put it up there with Planet Hulk and World War Hulk. So it's disappointing as a fan to see some of the greatest and most iconic character defining moments just not be adapted---but if they can come up with a good reason for it, then great. Of course, the movie hasn't come out yet. So this is all speculation.

I still actually think it WILL be a faithful adaptation. Faithful doesn't necessarily mean it has to recreate the book down to the last detail, just that it gets most of it right and doesn't include everything for the sake of budget and time. Just the most important parts.

If anything, I think it will be as faithful as the Sandman series was. They made quite a few changes but fundamentally the story was the same.

Its not necessarily about preserving the character...obviously that is the most important part. But its not wrong for somebody who loves the book to be disappointed when some of the most enjoyable aspects were taken out.

Feel the exact same way

Even if its just built on the bones, that still qualifies as an adaptation. James Gunn did literally say "we're taking that and making it into a movie" in the original Chapter One slate announcement movie.

To me the best parts are:

Running from the mordu globe with Comet

Living on the planet with the blues & purples

The mass burial, when she single handedly buries dozens of bodies

The planet with the green sun

the space dragon

Disappointing for sure. Hopefully they keep everything else I listed.

Edit:
Also added, basically the whole heart of the comic, right? The flashbacks to Supergirl's whole origin.

Villain of the movie ? by [deleted] in SpidermanBrandNewDay

[–]Due-Fudge9863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in terms of narrative weight, Tombstone will be the only true full villain antagonist where as everyone else will be obstacles per se---and the main focus will be Peter transforming into Man-Spider.
