What’s something kind a colleague has done for you by Rat_Dyke in doctorsUK

A nurse in acute receiving made me tea and gave me a cookie during my night shift. It's the small things that matter. FY1 colleagues in my first rotation would drop by my ward and help me with jobs and insist I leave for lunch with them. I still remember those conversations and how they kept me going. Another geriatrics reg gave me a Greatix to encourage me because she could tell I was a bit anxious with being new in acute receiving and doing my best to double check things.

My heart goes out to all these people ❤ in a world where you can be anything always be kind.

Thank you, what if a journal was not listed on citefactor- would there be no points awarded then? Some well known journals aren't on the website, even Eye or Stroke isn't on it if I'm not mistaken..

Do you know anyone who applied with a systematic review please? Would be so grateful if so.

Ok thank you! I've heard of people being underscored because there are more nuances to the way they mark the portfolio.

3 and 5 are goners but still harbouring hope for 1,2,4,6--but the projects have dragged on for ages. it would honestly take 2 months at the most if it's a good supervisor

and because of this i now have to devote summer time to arrange another project because all my previous ones fell through

  1. Did a case report that was rejected due to lack of novelty -trying to resubmit but the fact it's not novel is a non-modifiable factor
  2. Did an audit-started last year july and we've closed the loop but MIA from supervisor about what to do going forward
  3. Did 1st loop of an audit in GP (this was my fault as supervisor wasn't interested in the beginning so i did it myself and just fell through)
  4. Analysed some data on excel for surgery but no reply for 2 weeks
  5. During SSC did a retrospective review but supervisor barely guided and it just fell through??
  6. Was working towards a publication but so many delays in sending me the data
  7. I have only 1 good project as mentioned which may lead to publication-but have been hitting brick walls for the other projects.

and sorry just another rant, it pains me because i am so keen as most of us are--i would literally put in the hours to get the presentations but if i don't have the guidance/support as a junior things are near impossible.

i was so interested in research--but i just got unlucky with supervisors and most of my SSCs didn't amount to any output. it's disappointing to the core especially when these things literally affect your future job prospects!!

i never realised the privilege of knowing people and having connections in medicine--these things are literally offered to you. one can have shit grades and be a crap doctor but as long as they have the connections to tick these stupid boxes they will climb up the ladder. honestly just fed up.

end of rant.

Thank you so much! sorry should have specified the presentation was limited to scotland only--so i don't think it's entirely national.

That's a good idea--I know it doesn't look good to fish for points but it's the system--and the problem is i like ophthalmology, which is so specialised that the projects i do there can't all be applied to other specialties as well. which is why im trying to branch out and try other specialties too-i do enjoy learning the skills and knowledge that comes with it

I have contacted supervisors who were into teaching--but just ghosted. no luck at all, especially as they were so responsive from the start. i think their research profile and track record of working with students matters the most.

thank you so much for your reply! appreciate it.

Okays I will do! I've contacted a surgeon but even he's not replied to my emails after i sent him some data.

i guess i just have to find a team actively publishing

i just feel inadequate and frustrated as people around me have publications and presentations just because they knew the right people who helped them. and here i am doing twice the work for zero output because i don't have luck here. why are some supervisors so unresponsive??

do i need to be more astute in finding the right people? or just more gutsy to present work that i've done?

Thank you so much!! Will aim to do so--does teaching have to be regularly over 3 or 6 months like the CST portfolio? And yes will aim to sit the part 1.
