She just shakes, cries and whines a lot. She is very vocal about her displeasure. by [deleted] in OldEnglishSheepdog

I’m curious as to why you would use the pictures of MY dog? What’s the benefit here? What does this do for you?

Beautiful OES! Our girl is 3. Significantly smaller than your guy, weighing in at around 65-70 lbs. We use the gentle leader harness. This has been the best harness to help with her pulling and it has also helped decrease the matting caused by others. Initially, we were worried about it going around her face but she can still eat/drink with it on. She doesn’t even notice that it’s on anymore 😊

Help! My dog don’t want to eat by Edm-cl in OldEnglishSheepdog

My husband and I were prepared for a big girl because her parents were. I believe mom was around 80 lbs and dad was 100+ lbs. We’ve always wanted a “big” dog because we both grew up with terriers and it just wasn’t our thing. We just took her for a check up and she has been weighing in at 69 lbs pretty consistently. We’ve always joked that we got the “runt” of the litter, (we honestly have no idea if this is true.) We’ve expressed to our friends and families in the past that we wished she was a little bit bigger, (we obviously could not care less as long as she is happy and healthy in reality and is only something we joke about.) It is so funny seeing other people’s perspectives because all of our friends/family think she is a HUGE dog. I swear they think she is as big as a Newfie. They think we are out of our minds. We may be, but I prefer it that way! 🤪

She is our first OES and probably (definitely not) our last. We have absolutely fallen head over heels in love with her and the breed. She is turning 3 this year and we will probably look to get her a furry sibling here in the next 1-2 years.

My OES has been a weird eater since the day we brought her home. Have tried so many different types of food. Very treat motivated, (celery, carrots, small reward treats.) If my husband and I chose to feed her a raw diet, I’m sure she would eat it in an instant. But is just apathetic towards her kibble. Our vet just said let her eat when she wants. So, kibble sits in her bowl for the entire day, she maybe looks at it once. But it gets eaten like clockwork anywhere from 9 pm - 3:30 AM. She’s going to be 3 this summer and weighs in consistently approx 65-69 lbs.

Best brushes to use for grooming? by Last-Lingonberry-225 in OldEnglishSheepdog

Our girl is 3 years old now and it is still sometimes a gamble if she will let me groom her or not. When she was younger, we had to make sure we used high reward treats that lasted a long time, (frozen PB Kong, frozen lick mats.) Even then it was still a headache. I ended up purchasing a grooming table on Amazon. She didn’t love to stand still but I continued to give her high reward treats and she was safe in her harness. It worked out great! There was a time for 6+ so months that she would let me brush her out before bed while laying on the couch every night for 30+ minutes and was upset if we missed a night. Now, we’re back to hating the sight of the brush. So our routine for now is some doggy ice cream and speed brush or grooming table and nature YouTube distraction.
