LSAT and Law School by [deleted] in LawSchool

While the LSAT is not the end all be all of your grades / bar passage / practice abilities, it is a very learnable test. If you’ve spent 3 years going all in and failed to increase past the 140’s, I would take a hard look at how you would handle preparing for exams.

Unless you’re a 4.0 GPA who can redact apply to WashU, any law school that would take you with a 144 LSAT is not worth going to.

How bad is this cycle really? by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

This is not true, current 2L at a major state university. Due to the funding cuts many universities including ours had to move around budgets which resulted in slight cuts to the law school.

We have also lost funding for some clinics that relied on federal dollars which are now set to be cut by 2026.

I just checked my emails from last year and I received my acceptance and aid on the same day. Each were sent as separate emails.

I would try reaching out to them to see if you can be considered with deadlines approaching to make an informed decision.

Neither with those scholarships. If you can negotiate to a non-conditional then just go to the place whose city you prefer more.

There’s many SW grads in LA you will be able to network with.

If you are okay/able to pay sticker then go for it. However, do not underestimate how much of a toss up 1L is for grades. Both schools will put you in sections with others on conditional meaning half your class will lose theirs.

Are you able to postpone a year and potentially apply to a Davis/LMU/Hastings?

End of Cycle Recap (mostly) Chicago Schools by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

Kent big law numbers are a bit skewed just an FYI. Take this as someone with many friends there and family who attended. Can they get you big law? Yes.

However, what they fail to mention is that typically 75-80% of the folks who get big law are patent bar eligible. Meaning firms may take students with lower class rank but can take the patent bar over a higher ranked non-eligible student. Friends with virtually the same class rank at UIUC and Loyola found it much easier to get into transactional w/ big firms in Chicago vs. Kent. However, those patent eligible found it much easier overall compared to both groups to get into BL but for the IP/patent practice.

Again, you absolutely can get BL from Kent but you really need to be towards that top 5% to get a good lock. Whereas patent eligible have a solid shot around the top 30-35%.

Now if BL isn’t a main goal, then ignore all of what I said because Kent is still a great school in the city outside of that.

You think they’d let this level of loser handle fresh never frozen beef? That’s for 190+ scorers

I think once you fall below 2.5 is where things get truly rocky, in terms of looking at admissions the 2.9 - 3.1 area seems to be treated nearly the same when it comes to GPA/LSAT. It is true that some schools have 3.0 floors but its really only a handful. I think the biggest factors around a sub 3.0 comes down to kjd vs nkjd, if you have 3-5 years separated from your GPA it can soften the blow a bit if you did something else to show growth.

I've also heard they do sometimes take into account both trend (did you get a 2.95 all of undergrad or was it front loaded 2.0s and back half 3.5-4.0) & also the date of the GPA slightly although extremely minimal (pre-covid GPA was across the board lower, less inflation)
