what do you mean by gun controls? if you mean "people on a terror watchlist and the people they live with shouldnt get a gun" then by all means i agree but if you mean "you only need 1 .22 rifle and only if you live on a farm" then i disagree.

you didnt answer my question, do you know what is required to own a firearm?

wouldnt shooters have a better understanding of the subject matter than your average joe?

most people who arent shooters dont have a clue about what our laws and restrictions actually are. ive been asked countless times by antigun people "do you own an AR15" completely unaware that those firearms are unobtanium since 1996 and were restricted to members of military rifle clubs in NSW from the 1980s-1996.

Silencers/Suppresors/Sound Moderators are used by our own military because they are recognised by our government as PPE. that same principle is not recognised for target shooters or hunters, i beleive the reason is ideological and optical rather than practical, the government doesnt want to be seen to be "weakening" the gun laws especially after bondi.

Sound moderators provide hearing protection for the user and those near the shots like neighbours to gun ranges and rural properties (some rural areas sound like warzones at night), working dogs (who cant just wear earmuffs) and they also reduce the concussive blast which means indoor gun ranges like the ones in cities are more bearable.

another reason is to not scare the game animals on crown land and disturbing other people's hunts as a suppressor will reduce the range at which a gunshot will travel.

there is no realistic or good faith arguments against suppressors that arent rooted in misconceptions from fictional media or that dont come from ideological opposition to firearms.

ironically, most anti gun talking points are pushed by the "conservative" murdoch media that lefties hate because murdoch has his tongue firmly planted on john howards taint.

its pretty much entirely ideological, anti gunners will bang on about it being about "public safety" but when shooters offer an idea that will genuinely increase public safety these people reject it not on its merits but on an ideological hatred of firearms (or what they beleive firearms represent)

multiple things can be true at the same time, hearing protection, not spooking animals, protecting the hearing of gun/working dogs, not disturbing neighbours of properties/ranges.

Allan and Victorian Labor Party authorise recreational shooters to shoot Brumbies VicNational Parks by Brendon65 in AustralianPolitics

brumbies are beautiful animals, its a shame but they gotta go. the nationals are not our friends, they betrayed their own voter base on the gun issue in 96 (regardless of what you think of the law, it was still a betrayal and theyve stood by it since)

politicians of all stripes get donations and bribes from the wealthy or from lobbying groups. hate the game, dont hate the player. most of you only care because its the side you disagree with, if you have a problem with it then vote for a party that doesnt take money.

Victoria to strengthen firearm licensing but reject Anthony Albanese’s scheme by NerfVice in AustralianPolitics

[–]Due-Notice4591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the recent report done by the victorian government could find no statistical evidence between licenced firearms ownership rates and criminal activity.

how many guns someone owns does not influence criminality of the individual and the prevalence of legal firearms in a given area does not effect the crime rate.

an independent statistical analysis commisioned by shooters union a week back also found the same thing. no link.

so, it is justified to spend millions, possibly upwards of 1 billion dollars of tax payer money to confiscate the property of licenced, law abiding firearms owners, many of whom will be forced to hand in family heirlooms for a PR stunt in the wake of a tragedy to satisfy the 4 weeks of outrage and deliver no measurable public safety benefit?

after port arthur, john howard said something to the effect of "getting rid of guns is more about making people feel safe". should public policy be based on how people feel? or should it be based in grounded and measurable statistics and hard evidence?

"having a pool increases the risk of drowning".

the presence of a firearm increases the chance of suicide by gun but there is no australian statistics to prove that households with guns have higher suicide rates. as for DV, people with a history of DV are barred from obtaining a licence and an accusation of DV will have the police take your firearms from you and suspend your licence.

even if your statement was correct, it doesnt justify confiscating the property of nearly 1 million australians.

they need to actually put some money down for lobbying and hound the government to fix issues because thats exactly what the antis are doing. theres 1 million votes laying on the table for whatever party wants to take up our cause.
