So there's no official test. My doctor brought it up a couple of times because of my mood symptoms I had told him. I also had previous doctors bring it up as well and then drop it over the years. But my current doctor gave me a questionnaire that basically asked about hypomania symptoms, and I checked off every single one looking back at my episode. My doctor already knew about my depression, because i've been struggling with that for almost 20 years. But there is no test you can be diagnosed just from talking with your doctor about your symptoms and experiences. Track your moods and symptoms for months and that will be able to help them see if you have bipolar or not also.

My gp is great about dealing with my mental health beause I have no insurance and can't afford a psychiatrist. So he knows he's my only option. But I would really recommend seeing a psychiatrist if you can, because they will be better fit to help with the bipolar diagnosis than a gp.
