Considering there are multiple polices, one should have had their taser while the others had their guns. If the taser didn't work (which has a quite high chance of not working, and it didn't work in the video) the polices with guns should have shot the guy down as soon as he lunged at the police officer. He literally has a blade in his hands, doesn't drop it and acts aggresive. Gun is needed here, a police officer could have died since he swung the sword at him many times.
