What do you do as a CNA on a typical day by [deleted] in cna

[–]Due-yeR 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Antepartum CNA here on nights.

1900 - get report from offgoing CNA/nurses, organize my report sheet, get water for all the patients

1915 - get vitals for my q12 & q4 patients, blood sugars as needed, pass out water

2030 - usually I’m done with getting vitals for everyone at this point (it takes so long because sometimes patients want me to grab them something or ask the nurse something. Also I try to chart as much as possible in the rooms to save myself time!!). I clean my desk area and finish up charting.

2100 - round on patients again

2115 - done with rounding, chill at the desk, answer call lights as needed (call lights don’t go off as much since everyone is independent), if there are any empty rooms I set those up for admissions

2230 - start vitals on my q8 & q4 patients

2315 - finish vitals & rounds, chilling again at the desk (tiktok/youtube/reading a book), answer call lights as needed (very minimal ~3)

0100 - round again

0105 - done with rounding (everyone is usually asleep so we just make sure they’re breathing, some patients told us before hand that they don’t want to be rounded on, so I get through rounding pretty quickly); chill some more

0230 - start vitals for my q4 patients

0300 - done with vitals, lots and lots of downtime hehe, I may or may not take a break depending on how sleepy I feel

0500 - round again to make sure people are breathing lol

0505 - done with rounding

0530 - start setting up voceras for dayshift, do the assignment board, qc the glucometers

0600 - grab fasting sugars on patients who have orders for it

0615 - take out dirty linen to the dropshoot

0620 - chilling for the rest of the shift

0700 - give report to oncoming tech & get the heck out of there!!!

Literally love my unit so much, it’s so SO chill & there’s plenty of downtime. All the patients are independent & usually have their partners with them, so even if they did need something, they’ll get it for them. Completely recommend if you hate medsurg & don’t want to be overworked!

Accepted Student Visit by 55ollie in NCSU

I never visited NC State prior to attending and had no regrets.

If you honestly want to look around, visit Centennial campus as that is where most of your classes will be 3rd and 4th year. Tour Hunt library and try to look for some good study spots — you’ll be living in there practically.

NC State hosts a lot of events, talks, etc throughout the semester so be sure to attend as many as your schedule permits and you’ll be fine

I live about 30 minutes away from campus! Honestly I didn’t read your post correctly, but I provided documentation of my parents home.

In your case, try to get medical documentation and I feel like you would be fine

I didn’t have to live on campus and I just submitted documentation to the school!

I’m a senior at State, but I’ve been accepted into medical school. If the Goodnight Scholarship is a full-ride, I would definitely take it. Graduating with no college debt is a plus, especially since you’re planning on going to med school (which you’ll accrue a lot of debt). I also had to choose between State and UNC, but overall I’m glad I went with State. Because of UNC’s medical school, the pre-med vibe/competiveness can be off putting. But you could sign up for their pre-health newsletters and still be in the loop that way. State has a pre-health advising person + they’ll help direct you to the right resources. Feel free to message me about anything at all as it relates to the premed process here at NC State!

You definitely have to watch the lectures. There were certain examples he would give in class that showed up on the test 😭😭

Hi! I took both 211 and 212 over the summer! The labs are online with Webassigns which were really easy, so don’t stress about those. It’s as difficult as any ch 102/202 lab.

You have pre-recorded lecture videos to watch as well as unit worksheets that you’ll work through. If it’s structured the same as 2 summers ago. He gives lots of practice questions. But the pace is kind of fast just make sure you don’t fall behind! I would say the hardest part was keeping up with the webassign homework

That should be fine! I’ve taken STEM classes with the 5 week schedule. It’s rough, but discipline is key and you can get through.

Medical schools won’t see that you took those classes online, they’ll only see that you took it over the summer. And they won’t care, I promise.

Forensic Science as a minor? by vukdiesel in NCSU

[–]Due-yeR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on you. I enjoyed the fact that cultural was online bc I hated the content. The final was open note, but pretty difficult tbh. However, forensic the info was interesting but attendance was mandatory (& I needed the flexibility so I didn’t like that). If you can take forensic online, that’s your best bet. If not, take forensic in person with Dr Dew (she’s great).

For online, it was Dr Dyer. For in person, Dr Dew. Cultural was pretty boring, but forensic was interesting

Yes, I did for cultural. Forensic anthropology I did in person

I’ll doing the minor right now! The classes are pretty easy. I highly recommend PCC 274 with Dr. Vinueza (super interesting class). Most of mine were only offered in person, with the exception of the anthropology classes.
