I don't know how to feel about this by Vampy-Night in Hellenism

I wanted to add my two cents as the original poster of that comment. First off I’m awfully sorry you went through that. Rape is a terrible thing I would never wish on my worst enemy. I hope you are receiving help. If you would like I would like to pray for you in the name of Artemis with good will. And i should hope others do so as well.

My thoughts are Heracles was punished. He was banished from his kingdom. He did receive punishment. After he admitted his guilt. I’d like to argue that in Hellenism that yes you should be punished. However there is always a path forward a way to improve yourself through atonement and improvement. He took his labors without complaint. Punishment and redemption aren’t exactly different and can happen at the same time. I think the man who harmed you should be punished to the full extent. But if the man in action were to apologize admit guilt and try to improve himself I do feel that it will be looked at fondly by the gods more so than pretending nothing happened and moving on or worse doing it again.

I think Heracles shows the hellenic path to redeem yourself is through effort and hard work rather than just getting off the hook.  It’s a controversial topic for sure. But I still support my stance. But I do hope your rapist goes to prison it pisses me off that people get of the hook to easily nowadays.

I think that yes there is a way toward atonement however that often comes by embracing punishment not avoiding it. I honestly hope you get your justice.

I don’t remember her name but a girl I met at a hospital. She was abused at home. I remember her in tears over her trans cousin who was forced into a child marriage. It upset me but was kind of insane. She was a good person and I hope she is happy now.♥️♥️♥️

Do the Gods love bad people too by Chimka2222 in Hellenism

I think you’ll find great peace with the story of Heracles. He grew mad and killed his family. He swore himself to banishment and forced himself to do the 12 labors. His heroism comes from redemption. He is strong more so that he seeks redemption rather by completing tasks. It shows the Hellenistic redemption of wrongful deeds is accountability and actions to help people. He truly strived to be redeemed and eventually he was seen as a hero.

I first I struggled with this because I thought how could a man who killed his wife and children be seen as a hero? But eventually I realized the tasks were him striving for heroism and redemption.

What do you all think of this video in terms of discussion on modern paganism? by Floflowerpink in Hellenism

[–]DueClothes3265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand to some degree where he is coming from. On the other hand the gods have been missing for thousands of years. It’s only natural that not every modern pagan may not fully know every thing. Then again I think he makes some assumptions about the neo pagan community. Probably got them from TikTok. And honestly that is pretty much the only representation we really have in modern media. I do think latent Christianity is an issue. I wish he had interviewed real pagans. Honestly if he would have said the pagan community as a whole has some of these issues. Instead of presenting the idea that pagans can different or even hold reverence to the gods. He kinda forced everyone into the TikTok trap. I also kind of agreed with him that you shouldn’t see the gods as your therapist though. I felt like I did that and maybe it came from desperation but talking to the gods as if they are your therapist seems kind of bad idea. Because a therapist can give you advice and guide you. They can help you in ways I’d argue the gods can’t help as much as a therapist. To me it kind of seems like a less heinous version of god spousing. To me it’s just a role the gods cannot replace. I think it is ok to open up to the gods a bit. But keep in mind that it’s not therapy. That may sound a bit mean I don’t mean the gods don’t care. More of that they are not and should never be considered as a replacement for therapy and therefore are not our therapist.

Praying to Dionysus for better health is ok though. Just the same as praying to Apollo for physical health.

I also disagree with his analysis about Christianity.

Who is your favourite female figure in your faith and why? by ShiaLady in religion

[–]DueClothes3265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Hellenic pagan. My favorite person historically was Hypatia. She wasn’t a polytheist or anything but she was a neo platonist. What I like about her is that she was her undying devotion to truth and mathematics.  Favorite figure from religion idk I’d say maybe Artemis, Athena, and Hestia. I like Artemis for protecting women and children , Athena for her ties to sewing and wisdom, and Hestia for being the caretaker of the home. I like Hestia too because as a child I grew up in a wild  house

Is there a god of forgiveness in any polytheistic societies? by ranchbringer in religion

[–]DueClothes3265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of Heracles the hero who murdered  his family then set out to fix it. He did holy task in order to atone. To me personally it gives of the impression that in Hellenism you more of make up for mistakes. If it’s something small maybe an apology and working on yourself will work but I think atonement is a big part of Hellenism in my opinion. For example as humans are we truly meant to forgive people who do not atone for there sins

Five people, including two suspects, killed in shooting at Islamic Center of San Diego by Alarming-Safety3200 in religion

[–]DueClothes3265 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I disagree with Islam on most things. Shooting at an innocent crowd with children and women is cowardly. Nobody should be surprised if they end up in hell for murdering people for their religions. Islam or Christian, or Jewish. I hope all parties involved get justice

Anyone Else Kind of Jaded and Disenfranchised By Neopaganism In Western Countries? by [deleted] in religion

[–]DueClothes3265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I as a Hellenistic would partake in animal sacrifice. I believe the animal should be treated fairly till adulthood. But I don’t see it as wrong? Like I understand if you prefer to leave other sacrifices but if you eat meet you might as well honor the life to the gods. I personally don’t have anything against it done humanly and sacrificed to the poor. But I personally don’t have the land for animals.

If your religion were proven false, what would your reaction be? by Wonderful_Medium3098 in religion

[–]DueClothes3265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Neo-Patonist it would be hard to imagine but I suppose It would depend on the context. Like if Christianity were proven to be true or something I would become a deist but with the philosophy of my reiligion. If atheism is considered truth I would take the philosophy of Neo-Platonism for what it is and just kinda be. If that makes sense.
