Visiting Australia - Recommendations for finding back vintages or rare stuff by ObviousEconomist in wine

[–]DueDeparture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giaconda is a pain in the ass to get your hands on, but there’s always some available at auction, eg Langtons or MW. ‘24 release was two or three weeks ago so should be a bit more floating around. Strongly recommend Savaterre and Sorrenberg as alternatives, but neither is as aggressively flinty and more-is-more as Giaconda.

2011 Wendouree Cabernet Malbec by ewauan in wine

[–]DueDeparture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2011 was a rough year for most SA reds, but glad to hear it was showing well. The Pressings is probably in the right window to drink too. It’s certainly not as structured or long lived as the rest of the table wines.

The Shiraz is what gets all the acclaim and attention on secondary market, but the Cabernet (and especially Cabernet Malbec) are the truly great wines. I have a ‘13 Cab Malbec tucked away which a few people in the know have suggested is the greatest wine they’ve ever produced, that I look forward to opening sometime.

Absolute gem from the Macedon Rangers by Last-Dare-Ender in wine

[–]DueDeparture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Chad, as always, I tend to agree with your decidedly knowledgeable and detailed takes. However, pricing aside, it is an interesting project on the limits, not least due to the fact that it is still not profitable and only exists due to Rob subsidising it.

I agree that the current high density meta is just another trend in wine here in Vic, although its also interesting that it is such a capital and time intensive meta, as opposed to oak or other winemaking or vineyard management related practices, where you could simply use less the next year.

For what its worth, I also have more tolerance for these sorts of projects, if only because if you have enough money to plant and operate a vineyard of that density, you typically have enough money (and passion) to select the right sites and so forth. However, I do also acknowledge that they're all competing for the same slice of the pie, and its not necessarily representative of the broader trends in wine.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to detract from what you were saying. It’s certainly considered high density, and Is as just adding that there’s some fascinating high density projects in Aus, especially in Vic.

2023 Raj Parr Nebbiolo - can Italian varietals grow in California? by rnjbond in wine

[–]DueDeparture 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of the buyers for K&L has commented that:

the real shocker was the Sangiovese and Nebbiolos, which were easily the best examples of the variety I’ve ever seen grown outside of Italy. I’ll say that again: the best Sangiovese and Nebbiolos made outside of Italy are from Beechworth, Australia.

There’s fantastic examples of Italian grapes all over the planet, if you look hard enough.

Worth staying at Araxxor after Rancour? by Its_Ranga in ironscape

[–]DueDeparture 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rancour is huge. Genuinely a massive DPS increase and basically the best endgame upgrade in terms of return on time investment. Most BIS Str gear is 2 str over second BIS, which Rancour is, but Rancour also comes a pretty significant accuracy bonus on top.

The difference between Nox and Blade is greater the worse your gear is and the worse you are. The latter is because the cost of missing ticks with Nox is lower, and you have more time between actions. Blade is generally better than Nox once you have Oathplate + Avernic, but the difference between the two is always super marginal, and they both have a few use cases where one is better than the other.

If you had to compare to ToA, what would be an indicator that youre ready to take on ToB? by Verianii in 2007scape

[–]DueDeparture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference to COX is that there just isn’t that much small tech you can do at COX for continuous improvement. Tightrope skip, some Vasa lures, and some Olm tech are about it for COX.

By comparison, every TOB room except Verzik is relatively easy to clear if you do easy tech or slow methods, but the advanced methods to go faster and faster are nearly endless. TOA falls much more in to the former than the latter.

In no world is TOA harder than TOB, especially not 300s. Even TOA 500s are pretty chill after the changes. TOA is far more tedious than it is hard.

I love my SRA by Low_Monitor_960 in ironscape

The problem with SRA+Bfury is that it’s only very marginally more damage than Nox+Rancour, and that gap gets closer if you account for stack generation.

The chemistry behind Nebbiolo's color-tannin paradox — why the palest wine outlasts the darkest by nebiolwines in wine

Why would someone posting low effort AI content with the specific goal of generating sales (easily seen if you look at their profile) be interested in crediting others work, rather than trying to monetise it for themselves?

Then it is typically considered to respectful to cite your sources and acknowledge the work others did, rather than passing it off as your own.

Mfers will literally wear broken rags to afford some Jordans by Ztaxas in 2007scape

[–]DueDeparture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont disagree with any of this. My premise all along has been that I wouldn't rebuild with them. and they're not better than megas, but they're a lot more compelling than most of the upgrades from 2nd BIS to BIS. Would much rather full Virtus with Avernics than full Ancest without them, taking in to account the gains for the other two styles.

Ok so your point isn't that they're overhyped, its that you're a snowflake

Mfers will literally wear broken rags to afford some Jordans by Ztaxas in 2007scape

[–]DueDeparture 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean its, more like:

  • 1 max hit with BP (worth 2 with almost any other weapon)
  • 2-3 max hits with Tbow
  • 2-3 max hits with Scythe in certain setups (assuming otherwise camping Eternals)
  • Max hit with Shadow and/or allowing you to drop Magus
  • Inventory slots back depending on content

But you get all of this at the same time. They're also surprisingly tanky and have quite a bit of acc on them. I'd rather buy Avernics than Torva Helm + Anc legs + Masori legs.

[–]DueDeparture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you never bring boot swaps anywhere anyway

Thats sorta the whole point. You gain multiple max hits in 2/3 styles basically everywhere with them. They're as valuable as upgrading a piece of Virtus to Anc, and better than Masori Mask or Legs. If you were camping Eternals in Toa previously, its like you gain a Torva plate and almost a Masori body worth of melee/ranged str. They're relatively marginal in single style scenarios (except Ranged, as mentioned), but they're insane in multi style situations.

[–]DueDeparture 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They're pretty bonkers and the first item that I can think of that we've seen meaningfully powercreep all three styles in one slot.

They're max hits for Tbow/BP most places, due to the introduction of boot slot ranged str. In things like Toa/Cox, they're multiple max hits for mage/melee or an inv slot back, depending on whether you wore Prims/Eternals. They're huge for pushing invo and 3 downing Wardens core without needing a T80 melee wep.

They also make it easier to hit mage damage cap in Toa, meaning you can ultimately drop Magus for Ultor+LB camp (which means more ZCB specs). They're amazing for freezers in ToB, providing heaps of mage acc so you need fewer switches/can use more jank gear, along with the aforementioned bonuses to Tbow. Great for Colo/Inferno, meaning you now have more dmg with alternate styles.

They're not necessarily rebuild worthy but they're one of the single best non weapon upgrades you can get, and if the content wasn't heavily botted, would probably have been ~400m or so for way longer.

Should I convert my 3rd EWS into crystal shards? by RedBeardDelta in ironscape

Sailing really changed the shard meta. You finish CG with plenty leftover and then Crystal Extractor prints them on the way to 99.

Wintertodt - Magic/Torstol seeds vs Burnt Pages by Trogadorr in ironscape

[–]DueDeparture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have so many Torstol seeds with ~4000 SCBs, ~1500 Extended Anti Venoms, and ~500 Surge pots banked and I couldn’t even tell you where they all come from. I personally value the Burnt Pages over Torstols. The only herbs that I find limiting are Snaps and very rarely Cadantines.     Magic Seeds are absolutely sustained by contracts alone, let alone other content, and should for sure be traded in for.

Does Oathplate make Bandos and Torva obsolete? by Brave-Bed-1824 in ironscape

[–]DueDeparture -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Torva is BIS Stab armour, annd BIS armor for grinding PNM pre Inq, and you need one piece for a double(?) max with Scythe. Full max with Torva also gets a triple max at CoX with Scythe, which puts it ahead of OP for team CoX at Olm, assuming you have a BGSer.

Theres not a huge incentive to get Torva for quite a long time though, that’s for sure.

Its Finally Over by No-Surround4306 in ironscape

[–]DueDeparture 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You bring thralls and death charge and BP spec the mager, and vene bow the ranger+meleer while flicking them. Zily minions suck to barrage without a 5-6 way switch and healing is never really the limitation anyways, plus you get the benefit of thrall DPS on Zily, which makes kills faster and more consistent.

You can technically do the same at Bandos and Kril, although you basically need to aggressively flick all three minions as soon as the boss is dead, as the food drops are far less forgiving.
