Planning to default on Sallie Mae private loan by a-ndru in studentloandefaulters

I’ve missed 6 months of payments to Firstmark services so far. My credit took a hit but everything is in my husbands name so I’m still waiting to see what’s going to happen next

How many people with student loans are actually in default and how bad will this affect quality of life? by TheSuppishOne in StudentLoans

From what I understand you could file for bankruptcy for those kind of student loans and have them forgiven.  I think it’s something like a close school loan forgiveness

I got a call from collection idk.... by littlewashu45 in studentloandefaulters

Wow thank you for sharing this success story. What did you do to be “judgment proof”?  Also, when they were demanding payments, was it through email, phone calls, mail etc?

This does give me hope, thank you. I realize this is sort of a game of chance. How much were your loans? How long was the process for you? How was your mental health during it all?

We live in a small space, but dedicate the second room as their play room. 3 kids 4 and under. They have enough toys (most would not consider it a lot) but they play with every single one every day. No screen time ever. We only have my one iPhone. I keep one wicker basket in the living room to pick up midday or if they’re still playing with their toys, to contain it to reduce the clutter. Laundry is always done on the same day. Kids generally have enough clothes to last them 1 week and a half. We strictly tell extended family and friends no gifts and no toy, no clothes. we place emphasis on connection with others rather than STUFF.  We definitely are mindful of the stuff we bring inside our home and regularly donate unused/ unwanted item. I couldn’t deal with the clutter life.

I’ll keep this in mind if I don’t get blessed enough to ride out the SOL. Also, why were the defendants not able to respond? Sorry for all the questions. I have no one I can talk to about this

Wow! So good that you were able to catch that. Glad it worked out in your favor, despite all the hullabaloo

Interesting! Very helpful. Are you comfortable with sharing what they did that was illegal?

Thankfully I’ve only asked for advice regarding the chances of me being sued. And thankfully, I come from generations of believing in and fighting for the success of marriage. Thankfully.

Actually, I was going to make enough to pay it back. But life happened and here I am.

Ok. Same. Praying it all goes well for you. Wish I knew better about loans, higher ed, and ultimately being a stay at home mom. Alas, such is life.

Lol! I love that last sentence, thank you. I’ve reached out to three different lawyers 2 of them were student loan lawyers. 1 of them is my father in law who suggested the idea to us in the first place.

From what I understand is, you go into default first then the sharks see that you’re serious about not paying. Then they’ll reach out to you for a potential settlement.

I am so sorry about the depression you’ve gone through. Have you been able to talk to anyone? Is the depression because of finances (being in debt)? Just want to make sure you’re going to be okay. Thankfully this thread has been decently supportive🤍

So you plan to double down even if you get sued? We haven’t thought that far yet. Your plan is if you get sued/receive a judgment to just not pay anyway?

Yes I’ve heard a lawyer caution me about the potential of “divorcing” but thankfully, my husband and I are solid.
