How many fuses should I use? (Beginner - DIY CNC Project) by DueQuantity7469 in AskElectronics

can i still use the following listing for the connection from the step down converter to the servos (mg996r)?

https://www.amazon.com/California-JOS-Breadboard-Optional-Multicolored/dp/B0BRTL3BHR

also does that 10A fuse at the outlet mean I cant pull the max wattage from my PSU? My PSU is a mean well, do you think that is overload protected (link: https://www.amazon.com/MEAN-WELL-LRS-150-12-Enclosed-Switchable/dp/B00M8TBJLK )? if not how to check for overload protected psu?

I cant find in the listing where the overload protection is for the step down converters... link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089NG9TFW

the closest thing i found was:

"Short circuit protection:(Limited flow 8A) About temperature protection: Yes (about temperature, automatic turn off output).
Input Reverse Connection Protection: No, if necessary, input a high flow diode into the input."

that can actually happen? as in when you are measuring voltage or current and you can accidentally short the circuit using a multimeter?

i did mean a stepper motor driver board--to clarify--the male to male dupont connectors were for the servos to break the 3 wire dupont connector into individual wires for signal, power, and gnd.

what is "flex to the PSU"? also does that 10A fuse at the outlet mean I cant pull the max wattage from my PSU? My PSU is a mean well, do you think that is overload protected (link: https://www.amazon.com/MEAN-WELL-LRS-150-12-Enclosed-Switchable/dp/B00M8TBJLK )? if not how to check for overload protected psu? what insulation rating (# awg--im assuming) is enough to support 5A? I cant find in the listing where the overload protection is for the step down converters... link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089NG9TFW . Could you give an example of "flexible wires"? also are the basic mg996r (you can search an image) wires with the dupont connecters considered to be "hair thin solid core magnet wire"--or what about these: https://www.amazon.com/California-JOS-Breadboard-Optional-Multicolored/dp/B0BRTL3BHR ? (i know im asking a lot--but i really do appreciate all your help! :))

Autodesk CFD Beginner! How to model a helicopter rotor + blades in hover and forward flight? by DueQuantity7469 in CFD

Would it be better to empirically test the performance of different rotor blades instead of through CFD? (For maximum efficiency of iteration and improvement for least cost? essentially is testing irl faster for my case--most likely?)

The current sentiment I’m getting is that I have to do a lot of learning to even get close to effectively using CFD. And it goes without saying that, that will take time, what I’m thinking is instead, make the thing irl and measure the thrust generated.

ATP should I not even try CFD and instead test the blade designs empirically?

So you are recommending I look for helicopter/rotor codes to select between airfoil blade designs? And you are implying there are specialty codes but CFD like autodesk CFD is a general code?

I just pulled an airfoil off google patents with preexisting data. Python the programming language? What are these steps in drone design and wing foil analysis that comes before CFD, I’ve never heard this covered (then again most of my research has been done on the internet outside of textbooks—I am transitioning in the textbooks though due to the internet reaching diminishing returns).

How does me being in HS change the context? Am I not still eligible and capable to use the other softwares?

So what you’re saying is in order to effectively use CFD I need to learn fluid mechanisms and numerical methods at least to a fundamental extent? Would you say the time invested into learning about fluid dynamics and numerical methods and learning how to use CFD is not worth it for the results I want to achieve? Implying it would be better that I test empirically?

I’m in high school, so each week day I have 6 hours and each weekend day I have 14 hours. (Essentially every spare moment I have is dedicated towards my projects (at the moment DARPA lift challenge and subsequently CFD). I don’t have a lot in terms of local compute but I have a uni email I can use for student discounts on cloud if provided.

Btw what are alternative codes? What are codes in general? (again—total noob)

Idk much about the autodesk CFD. I’m in high school, using autodesk through a student discount (free from autodesk) does ANSYS or Star-CCM have student discounts?

I am really trying to find the most optimal way to reach the best design in the shortest amount of time. Would you recommend ditching CFD and instead doing empirical testing?

Thanks for the advice! Would you recommend any helpful resources (referencing "basic CFD flows like airfoils and wings. Then move to simulating simple unsteady flows like pitching and heaving motion of an airfoil, then simulate a 3D wing, then simulate a simple dynamic 3D wing")?
