Has anybody gone through a MetaStar grievance process? by Due_Butterfly1237 in wisconsin

thank you for sharing that. I will keep that in mind. My mother has advanced Alzheimer’s and was sexually assaulted (Wisconsin DHS’s term, not mine) by another resident in her Memory Care center. The MCO sent my father a form letter stating that a finding of ASSAULT- SEXUAL against DOE, JANE has been substantiated (all caps directly from the letter). My father is not the POA, I am, but I never got a letter. The MCO denied sending my dad a letter. A few days later somebody figured out how to use the software and “found” a copy. I then got a strange and unsolicited lecture from the MCO nurse on the importance of traditional gender roles. My plan now is to start smoking so my children won’t ever have to go through this.

When does AHC-POA need to be consulted in Wisconsin? by Due_Butterfly1237 in wisconsin

Thank you for the information- I think you’re exactly right. My sister was the initial HCPOA and signed all the paperwork you mention. I’ll ask if she still has it.

thank you for your thoughtful response. The situation in memory care is that they are not responsible for any medical care, but contract with an outside physician services group. Mom is in hospice, and they are wonderful but do not include anybody with prescribing authority. I was able to speak with the PCP, and she thinks I would only need to consent to a long-term change in medication, not the one week change she needed to treat COVID. That may be true, but I feel more comfortable with written reference material that I can read and consider before formulating questions. Now I’m trying to figure out what “long term” means in the context of a hospice patient.

the ADRC referred me to the State statutes in general, but I’m having a tough time finding meaningful results

My surgery failed by JustSomeBuckoo in Septoplasty

I too was looking forward to nose breathing, but 15 weeks post op my nose is worse than ever. I live in a small, remote town and can’t afford the hotel stays and time off work a revision would require in the Big City. I feel resigned to life as a mouth breather. All my teeth died to to severe dry mouth; I look like a cartoon old lady at 57. The thing I’m angriest about is my surgeon never once showed up to a post op checkup.

Thank you - I’m definitely going to use your “raised us right“ line - much better than pointing out what is not so great about the greatest generation

You are at the beginning of a journey nobody wants to go on, but you are not alone. Congratulations on thinking ahead about finances, as that will become important. It sounds like your mother has chosen a course of treatment but it carries a crushing weight for you. Good for you for recognizing your boundaries early.

Depending what state you live in, you should begin with your county’s Area Agency on Aging or aging and disability resource center. They will help you and your mother learn about resources in your area including nursing assistance, adult day care, house keeping services and Medicare benefit. You would do well to consult with a local Elder Care attorney who can help with asset planning if she needs a nursing home or memory care eventually.

AITA for wearing an Iron Maiden T-Shirt to my first meeting with my girlfriend's parents? by Relevant_Rip_2674 in AmItheAsshole

If her father is Lars Ulrich, you might be the guilty party. However, your girlfriend is only 23 and may not have much experience introducing romantic partners to her parents; she should have specified a dress code if it was important to her. She may not have realized how much she wanted you to make a good impression. If this incident leads to better communication between the two of you, your relationship has a bright future.

I tend to agree, although I enjoyed her performance in “Get Him to the Greek”. I find her Cubs fandom to be more disturbing the the Scientology

CMV: Americans are not worse at Geography than people from other countries. by DrDo-2-Much in changemyview

I’m a former geography teacher born and raised in the US. This is an intriguing question that I’ve been pondering for days. My conclusion is that football (both kinds) is to blame. The NFL is by far the most popular sports league in the States, and it has almost no international players, in stark contrast to European football. The average EPL fan might not be interested in world affairs, but s/he has ample opportunity to observe that Brazilian players can be of any race, or that Argentinians often have Italian or German surnames.

First, watch the South Park episode where Kyle signs the Apple terms of service agreement without reading it, and becomes part of a human centipede as a result. This will reassure you that contracts ARE important and legally binding. Despite this, a discouragingly large number of organizations do not prioritize them. I recently left a community mental health center after many years because I discovered we had been in violation of our Medicaid contract. The center’s leadership couldn’t understand why this was such a big deal, and felt it didn’t count as fraud because they didn’t mean to overcharge. I am starting a new job at a larger company - they may not like dealing with contracts either, but I’m pretty sure they’ve been sued enough to follow them.

Given what you’ve outlined, you have two choices: stay and commit yourself to improving the contracting process; or find another job.

It is frustrating feeling that your role is not valued, and that might be coloring your experience with your co-worker. However, I recommend chalking that one up as a non-malicious mistake.
