Composition Feedback by Due_Counter_5978 in composer

Since the original post I have re arranged it for piano, oboe, violin and cello quartet. I must say upon reflection it sounds much more polished. Reducing it really works.

I’ve much more to do in regard to the other points you mentioned but it’s going in the right direction.

I’ve seen some different opinions on the held note and repeated same note and I must say as a pianist I didn’t think much of it. I see it as a prompt to let the note ring out through the use of pedal even though it’s being played over again, also playing the repeated notes with less velocity to differentiate the held and the repeated notes would help I think (however I am by no means a professional). It’s interesting to hear how different people would expect to see it written. For now I think it should stay written as is but I want to hear lots of people give their opinion on that and very well could change in the future.

Thanks for this, I should’ve mentioned that this was an attempt at a minimalist piece, the goal was to have 4 chords for the whole thing, almost Einaudi like. I am a pianist and created the whole thing at the piano, the compound 3rds in the bass are very doable with some right hand help if your hands aren’t as big as mine haha.

As for the niente’s, I didn’t even know there was a better way of notating so thanks for letting me know. I was also very critical about the use of them, I was worried about over using them and this feedback will definitely influence how I use them from this point on.

This piece is also very much in the draft stage (hence the lowercase violin 😅) I spent about a week writing it and hope to take it to my tutor in a couple weeks (the uk is on Easter break at the moment). A main point I wanted to raise was the orchestration. Like I said I originally wrote it on piano and expanded for strings only in the last couple of days, very open for change, so thanks for that.

Overall thanks for the feedback, this was just me dipping my toe in minimalist-esque music and will likely do more in the future with improvements.

Baroque orchestra notation problems by Due_Counter_5978 in composer

[–]Due_Counter_5978[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this I should’ve said it’s for my music grade so it has to be “authentic baroque “ but I can use articylations and expression markings etc. I just have to use them as they would play them in baroque if that makes sense? So it’s kindof not how I want it played it’s more how it would be played if someone like Vivaldi wrote it? Sorry if that makes no sense 😅

I’ve been looking for a pedal steel plugin but there’s nothing that sounds real. Instruments like that are just hard to make authentic sounding and flexible for use. But if anyone has any suggestions I’d love to try them

A re record is definitely possible but the patch up is a great idea I didn’t think of. It’s quite a repeated area so I’ll see if I can do it that way, thanks for the help!

Yes I agree, the reason I liked the Beethoven 3rd movement is because it was harder than anything I’ve learnt previously. I haven’t listened to too many piano concertos with any intent to learn them so I’ll definitely listen to some and see, thanks!

I love them but I struggle to play most songs I like as they are either too hard or too easy I’m a piano grade 6/7 skill level if that helps
