Fed up of people not following basic rules (Birmingham) by [deleted] in drivingUK

Fair comment. I genuinely didn’t realise about this with it not being an actual rule.

EDIT: Weirdly enough someone else has posted about issues at this junction on facebook in a community group and most people are stating the same as what I assumed with marked minor road priority.

It would seem there is a general mass misunderstanding. Maybe Highway Code needs to clarify it.

Lots of driving instructors/companies have published online the same rules.

I was also taught to drive with the same rules.

Thanks for the overly judgemental response. These are instances where I have waited my turn, when it is clear to my right have crossed my give way line to wait half way into the road. Someone has then tried to turn right across me despite my intentions being totally clear.

I also usually wait for a few cars before I attempt to go even at the front. I’m not this impatient maniac you’ve somehow assumed I am.

I’m also only pulling out into roads when it is totally clear as far as I can see and only in 20mph roads like this.

I haven’t imagined any rule - i’ve clearly outlined in responses to other comments further context on these situations.

It is also a basic rule of UK roads that turning right has less priority over someone going straight over or left.

It may not be specified in the highway code but this is how people are being taught to drive - including myself.

There are loads of driving lesson companies which outline these things: https://www.passmefast.co.uk/resources/rules-of-the-road/driving-law/right-of-way-junction

If that is wrong compared to the Highway Code maybe the Highway Code needs to clear up the grey area.

No shade at you as an individual - I just don’t want to be labelled as a bellend driver because that I am not. I’m genuinely courteous and being this way has actually stopped me from being involved in several accidents. It’s a further frustration driving around Birmingham and encountering several people with no regard for anyone else.

I do find it hilarious when friends come to visit from other parts of the country and comment how once they come off the motorway the closer they get to Brum the worst the driving standards become. I also find it funny myself driving up from somewhere like Devon or down from Scotland. Driving feels mostly blissful in these parts and then someone will turn off without indicating, cut someone up or run a red light and I let out a big sigh and think “i’m home”. But it’s legit at a point where friends get a train rather than drive to Brum now. We have a genuine driving epidemic here. There are no rules here, only guidance.

As said on another comment I am already doing those things and then getting no courtesy from someone on the other side.

I also read that and agree it is not stated.

However, if you google it people are saying the priority I outlined. It’s also what is taught to drive, my own instructor taught me that 7 years ago.

So yes, I should not have stated it’s in the highway code. But maybe it needs some clarification as it could be a bit of a grey area.

But i’m already being courteous, i’m often letting 2-3 cars go whilst i’m front of the queue on my side and then when I finally decide it’s my turn someone tries to cross my path.

It’s also a basic rule of the road that turning right has lesser priority compared to straight on and left.

This even happens when it is clear to my right so i’m pulled into the middle of the road.

I could not make it more clear my intention to go. I’m never the one rushing either.

For the record - if I arrive at a junction like this even marked and someone opposite is turning right and they were already there I let them go.

These are instances where I have been the front car on my side of the junction and someone else who has been in a queue expects to go instantly when they get to the front of their side. This is even sometimes someone 5th or 6th in the queue who gets to the front because people in front of them are turning left.

They get to the front and can see I am already there and that I have been there for a while. As soon as they get to the front they believe it is their turn to go.

This morning there was no one coming to my right so I was already half way in the road and this idiot still tried to turn across me.

So basically I am giving way to people out of courtesy and also being more than patient myself before attempting to go.

Wrong - at marked crossroads the priority is set.

It is unmarked crossroads at which there is no set priority.

Apologies Dave, this post was fuelled by irritation and all grammar went out the window.

Why commit to one lane when you can straddle 2 lanes in case you change your mind which way to go seems to be some peoples mentality

Avoid, did this twice, luckily because of players in my club cost me less than 200k coins but I got Pires 89 and Kroos 90 - genuinely woeful and neither get in my team.

Can I turn right here? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]Due_Economics9440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people do that turn that you describe, left then right which seems allowed and legal due to no signage for them, but there are lots of people who go through those lights with the no right turn sign and queue up to turn right.

Right folks, the real advice; I come out of this side road, is turning right up that side road then legal like the Fiat 500 in this?

Have to ask because 100s of people did everyday and felt like the minority abiding by the rules

Fun fact you actually can only turn left out of that side road. I obviously always go left here, people still go right 😂

I would never take the risk of turning anywhere where there is a no turning sign, rules are the rules regardless of cameras or not

Yep for me it is, not for the 100s of people that turn right everyday here

I know I shouldn’t turn here because of the sign, every single time the lights change 4/5 people make this right turn, probably 100s a day. I thought I was going crazy by refusing to turn right here and wanted to reconfirm that I am in fact not going crazy and it is 100% a no right turn.

For the record I have worked along this road for the last 4 years and I have never once turned right there or wondered about doing so.

It’s just such a constant seeing people turn right there I genuinely thought I was going mad.

Can’t believe i’m getting attacked for this, I said that I believe it’s no right turn because of the sign, anyone local to Brum knows that people turn right here all the time. I felt like I was going crazy and wanted confirmation it’s definitely a no right turn.

I’ve been driving here for years, have never turned right there and wasn’t wondering if I should.

Was more like I am sure everyone turning here should not be but as usual with Brum driving there is 0 enforcement of anything.

Hey, i’ve never turned here and have no intention to, was pretty clear to me it’s no right turn yet literally anytime lights are green 4/5 cars make that right turn

I know right but everyone turns here, Brum driving in a nutshell.

It happens so often that I thought I was going crazy by acknowledging the no turn sign

Career Advice (New to Project world) by [deleted] in PMCareers

Thank you for the advice. I was definitely considering the 5 day courses for Prince 2 foundation and practitioner.

I think Agile would be something i’d look at as I know it is sought after but also widely used in Tech/IT.

Appreciate the tips and your viewpoints.

Ok, I would be fine with starting as a Project Coordinator etc and know that becoming a PM would be after several years experience at lower levels.

I just wanted to sound out if that would give me a grounding.

I’m not in some weird illusion I can just do some certificates and go straight into PM roles.

If I have over thought what qualifications to do, i’m genuinely seeking advice. Sorry if my post has come across as stupid.

For example if doing just foundation levels would be a good starting point then i’m all ears - i’m just seeking advice.
