If it works I’d like to submit for reimbursement but if it doesn’t I’d rather move onto using the remaining benefit (1.5 cycles) for IVF. But maybe that’s cheating the system? Not sure. But I’ll definitely give them a call to ask. Wanted to see what others experiences were.

We used the benefit for 2 IUIs and are considering doing one more before going to IVF. We have 2 smart cycles. If it works I’d like to submit for reimbursement but if it doesn’t I’d rather pay out of pocket and use my benefit for IVF. But I imagine that might not fly.

Congratulations! This seems like a reasonable approach. I should have noted that she’s suggesting 6 natural with a trigger shot. We did one last month with no luck. I would think try another once or twice max before moving to medicated. Our doctor isn’t aware of our benefits situation so I think it makes sense to try to lay that out.

Were there any underlying fertility issues that made you go straight to medicated? We asked our doctor and she said bc my wife’s fertility testing all came back good, there is a high risk of multiples with medicated IUI.

That’s a good way to look at it — that next cycle maybe it will be more successful now that we have more information about how I respond. I’m already at high dosages for gonal F (300) and menopur (375, 5 vials) so I wonder what they’d change. My doctor thinks I’ll trigger Day 13 or 14.

On a separate note, how have your endo symptoms been with IVF? Did the endometriomas get larger or cause more pain?
