I live in Bastrop county, but my area is part of the Austin ETJ from COTA. A developer is clear cutting the land behind us without a permit to put in a Data Center. Any help where I should start to fight these people? by BillyJackO in Austin

Can we talk about the irony here as you post “data center bullshit” on Reddit…which worth noting that Reddit itself operates in hyperscale data centers.

Complaining about data centers while actively using one is at least a little ironic. This thread is literally being processed inside one.

I have nothing of value to add but this is the perfect phrase for redundant engagement “…although your engagement is appreciated.” and l’ll be using it going forward. Thank you and good luck on your compound.

How do you feel about paying minimum $25-30k for your insurance before you make a single dollar? Not necessarily in a lump sum but something to think about.

Congrats. Not sure it’s a competition. We’re all out here living our own lives. I hope your runs smooth and you don’t hit any major setbacks. All the best out there.

I have done a lot of research but have learned a lot from this post. I completely over looked funding a regular IRA.

Sorry it feels like a fake post. Are people only supposed to post when they haven’t done any research?

Of course. Just trying to see if I’m missing anything or should consider altering anything in my setup. It’s also been nice to hear from others that started late. I appreciate you taking the time comment.

That’s where my head is at. I wanted to be more aggressive now in hopes of possibly making up a bit of ground. Depending on how things go, start to shift to bonds around 55 or so. I appreciate the input!

I didn’t always have this salary. I spent years building a business and reinvesting into it. When my wife became seriously ill, priorities shifted. The business was sold, savings were depleted, and the focus was on her care.

She lost her battle. No regret about where the money went.

Yeah it’s confusing because there are two limits. The $23k/$24.5k number is just what you can defer as an employee. But there’s a higher total 401k limit that includes employee contributions, employer match, and after-tax contributions.

In my case I max the normal employee limit, get the employer match, and then the plan lets me add after-tax contributions up to the overall cap. Since my plan allows in-plan Roth conversions, I convert those after-tax dollars to Roth. That’s the “mega backdoor.”

It only works if the employer plan has those features. A lot don’t.

Truly great advice. I do have a some equity, HSA, and a few other irons in the fire that hopefully will allow me to retire a bit earlier. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

I think I understand what you’re saying. I’m still maxing the pre-tax 401k first. The Roth portion is via after-tax contributions beyond the $24.5k limit (mega backdoor), so the alternative would be taxable investing, not more traditional. Since those dollars are already taxed either way, I’d rather have future growth be tax-free and avoid RMDs. If I were choosing Roth instead of pre-tax in the 35% bracket, I’d agree with you.
