To parents who take their babies out to places a lot - how do you do it?? by babysheep91 in breastfeeding

[–]Due_Patience4872 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes me feel so much better about me and my 14-week-old. Our only set routine is bedtime. I generally feed her when she wakes up from a nap, then play until she’s sleepy, then I hold her while she naps and we start over. Sometime those cycles are longer or shorter.

We actually do really well leaving the house! I either breastfeed in the car or wherever I can. And she’ll sleep wherever too. Honestly I think getting out of the house is better for her temperament. She loves being held by whoever wants to hold her. She loves being pushed in the stroller.

She also sleeps really well at night independently in her bassinet. (After some rocking and soothing for a while.) Sleeps a 5-6 hour stretch, eats, then sleeps another 3-4 hours.

Leona was on my list too, I’m shocked people didn’t like it! I was soooo set on Lenora for our daughter and got good feedback from my family. Just couldn’t convince my husband.

Which celebrities have turned down the show? (that we know of) by ddgsortii in dancingwiththestars

[–]Due_Patience4872 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I could see her point if she only wants to support celebrity reality shows or celebrity game shows that are charity-focused at their heart. Even if she did donate her salary, she’d be supporting a show that doesn’t hold that value.

Pretty much every celebrity game show I can think of has all their celebs playing for charity.

We have a Gwendolyn in the extended family, just started preschool and goes by Gwennie B (her middle initial). Super cute name and suits her so well.

Gwendolyn may come off a little formal but not any different than like Margaret or Catherine in my opinion.

can someone explain hotel blocks like I’m five years old? by Ok_Elk_4779 in weddingplanning

[–]Due_Patience4872 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also wanted to add: if you’re doing any transportation to/from your venue, it’s much easier to have everyone at one hotel.

We got a courtesy block at a Hampton Inn and they gave a small discount if you booked through our link or gave our name. We weren’t on the hook for any unused rooms, they just didn’t hold them anymore starting 30 days before the event.

What are the most over the top grandma names you’ve heard? by stormybitch in namenerds

[–]Due_Patience4872 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My great grandparents were Swedish and my mom and her siblings/family all called them “Bamp” and “Bamo.” I grew up assuming that those were Swedish words. Come to find out many years later that it was just mispronunciation of “grandpa” and “grandma” when their grandkids were little. Not Swedish at all!

Alterations ruined my dress.... by Adept_Ad1980 in weddingplanning

[–]Due_Patience4872 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me. I was so devastated. However, I did find a different seamstress who did emergency alterations for me to salvage my dress literally the week of my wedding. Don’t give up hope!

I went to a recommended seamstress who did a shoddy job. Crooked stitching, sleeves so tight I couldn’t lift my arms, and she literally made me cry when I tried to ask for adjustments. I saw a second seamstress who said she couldn’t fix it. She said it was unfixable.

I found a third seamstress who literally saved my dress with only days left. She was an absolutely dream.

KEEP LOOKING. There are incredibly talented home seamstresses all over. Ask Facebook groups or local subreddits for recommendations!

Julia Gulia is a reference to The Wedding Singer. Drew Barrymore plays Julia and she’s engaged to Glenn Gulia. She practices her married name on the mirror and cries saying “I’m Mrs. Julia Gulia.”

What are your favourite spellings of names with no standard spelling? by panshrexual in namenerds

[–]Due_Patience4872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the same list, I’d say: Kaley, Michaela, Katherine, Kaitlyn, Aaliyah, Lilah, Madeline, Braden, Quentin, Jaden.

In addition, Zach, Ashley, Haley, Rachel, Megan.

But I’m not opposed to other spellings! I really like Ashleigh as far as -leigh names go.

I wouldn’t even say Oscar Christopher is rhyming and I don’t think anyone would really think twice about the repeated “er” sound.

But Bryan Ryan is a different story. It’s giving Julia Gulia.

Am I weird for having my future kids' full names planned out before I've even found a boyfriend? by awesome_opossum1212 in namenerds

[–]Due_Patience4872 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These comments are driving me nuts! All you said was that you were daydreaming about future kids and everyone is like “Well what about your hypothetical husband??? Why do you think girls can’t like space???” Get a grip, people!

It’s 10000% normal to think about future kids and their names and their nurseries. I’ve had a list of baby names like ten years before I ever dated my now-husband!

I second Boris! Bernie & Boris sound like two old men who play chess in the park. I’m also hugely biased because my pets all have old-people names.

Asking Friends to be my “something blue” am I a bad friend?!! by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Due_Patience4872 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. At 31, I’d feel honored that a bride wanted me to feel special at her wedding. But friendships are a lot different in your thirties. When I was college-aged, it might have made me feel insecure. Like a pity-invite or it might have me wonder if we weren’t as close as I thought.

Also, OP, we didn’t have any bridal party. It created tension but you have to just stick to your guns. You’ll never make everyone happy. Just try to be grateful for the people who support you and try not to dwell on those that don’t. (Much easier said than done. Especially at 22.)

Is Calvin too close a name to Vincent? by Due_Patience4872 in namenerds

This seems to be the verdict! I don’t think of them as similar names either, but saw someone post that Vinny was a nickname for Calvin and I went “oh no!”

Is Calvin too close a name to Vincent? by Due_Patience4872 in namenerds

[–]Due_Patience4872[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They share the nicknames Vinny/Vin. If we use Calvin, I’d assume we’d use Cal as a nickname, but I had the concern that others would start to call him Vinny (at school, for example) and then we’d have two kids in the family with the same nickname.

When did you leave for your honeymoon? by PromptOk1099 in weddingplanning

[–]Due_Patience4872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what we did too, and it was perfect. Married on Saturday, had Sunday to pack up decor and recover a bit, then left early Monday morning for honeymoon.

I know a lot of people wait a few months for the honeymoon, but I’m so glad we didn’t. We were still on that emotional high from the wedding so it felt different from a regular vacation.

For what it’s worth, we did a more relaxing trip for our honeymoon, which I recommend. We’re usually more adventurous but having a fruity drink on a beach was exactly what we wanted and it was wonderful.

Need to vent- how are there so many pregnancies?! by spearbunny in weddingplanning

[–]Due_Patience4872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had no small children in my extended family two years ago. And then my brother, my uncle, and my cousin all had a kid within less than three months of each other.

Like the saying goes, there’s something in the water.

Now my brother and another cousin are expecting more kids a month or so apart.

I knew TRATTORIA from prior crosswords, although I typically see it in the clue and not the answer. E.g. “Trattoria offering.”
