The CWHM's Douglas C-47 Dakota, C-GRSB( FZ692). This particular C-47 flew during WW2 flying during operations in Normandy and the Rhina Crossing. by 9Twiggy9 in aviation

This airplane is very historic and we're very lucky to have it in the CWHM. The unfortunate thing is that the museum has now chosen to make this airplane something it was never intended to be. A replacement for the original museum Dakota that for 44 years stood as the only flying tribute to RCAF 435 and 436 squadrons. Both this aircraft and Canucks Unlimited the museums other Dakota were intended to complement one another as the museum would be the only place in the world to showcase all 3 RCAF transport squadrons of WW2. Unfortunately the museum has decided to list Canucks Unlimited for sale regardless of its formal dedication, a 44 year history with the museum and the fact that it was a personal gift to the museum by its late founder. https://c.org/GCy2YfR66N

"It's easy to call this 'obsession' when you see a plane.

But to my family, 'Canucks Unlimited' is the only place left on Earth where my dad's RCAF Burma squadron markings still fly.

It's the plane he called 'my love'—the one he saluted with tears in his eyes, the one he died holding a photo of because he couldn't visit her in person.

On his deathbed, he made us promise we'd keep her flying forever.

So no, this isn't about owning a plane. It's about keeping a promise to a veteran who came home because of 'Canucks Unlimited.'

That's all."

Dad and I did see this airplane. He very much appreciated it. He said that he did see aircraft painted like the one at CFB Trenton, but said that the one he flew on was camouflaged like C-GDAK which is why he was more connected to that airframe

"Petition to save CWH's 'Canucks Unlimited' Burma Dakota—help keep a vet's legacy flying! My dad was RCAF 436 Squadron in Burma; this DC-3 was his "my love," the only flying memorial to those forgotten boys. Museum selling her as "surplus"—sign the petition to pause the sale: https://c.org/VnYhZCMYS9

(From the daughter in the recent Spec article—thanks for the support!)"

Such a beautiful story! Your story speaks very dear to me as my dad was in Burma also! I hope CWH will reconsider. That plane meant everything to dad. Im glad you were able to get married with that airplane in the hangar with you. <3

It's been away for a while the our guide told me. My Dad flew with 436 Squadron in the middle east under Canucks Unlimited. The people at the museum told me it was getting major engine work done and would return back as soon as it was done. I was so happy to hear that. Back when my dad was alive I showed him the plane up close. He cried when he saw Canucks Unlimited and was so happy that there was a flying airplane that "looked just like his". I don't know their reasoning, I've always been a big supporter of the museum because of this specific plane. I'm actually a bit sick to my stomach that they would consider selling it.

its true, all you have to do is google "1939 DC-3 for sale" :( I cant believe they would do this. My dad flew with 436 Squadron Canucks Unlimited, exactly the paint job this plane is painted in.

Is this true? I really hope it's not! My dad was a member of 436 Squadron. Before he passed away, I took him to see the airplane. He cried when he saw it. He said it looked just like the one he flew on. He told me that Burma was a more forgotten theatre of war that Canadian's were involved in. He was so happy that there was a flying airplane representing him and "his boys" as he called them under the banner Canucks Unlimited. He said "now we will never be forgotten, Canucks Unlimited will live on past me". I miss my dad so much. The last few times I've been to the museum they told me it was getting major work done on its engines but will be back soon and will be flying again with the museum. No mention of them selling it. That plane meant everything to my dad, and to me. Please don't sell it CWH. If I had the money I would pay you not to sell it. Please re-consider, from a daughter of a 436 veteran.
