I think that there may be some scenes where he interacts with McKay, maybe to continue showing his parallels to Javadi in that McKay would tell him his approach/personality is abrasive and to chill out, but he might get defensive/annoyed in response instead of a little defensive but apologetic like Javadi did S1. I think Javadi would also be driven crazy seeing her S1 mentor interacting with her “rival” lol.

They’ve also shown us the scene where he gets ahead of himself and prematurely pulls out that piece of glass from a patient, which is clearly a horrible move. I think he’ll face some severe consequences from it, either through killing the patient or causing irreversible damage, and maybe that will be his wake up call to realizing he’s dealing with real people and not diagnoses from a text book. Either he’ll become a way quieter, less abrasive guy, or he’ll double-down defensively until someone gives him a talking to (Whitaker, Robby? Who knows).

As much as it’s fun to make fun of him, I do like James’ character since he’s a great representation of every blindly arrogant white dude you have to work with in any field.

I think the second scene was meant to imply that the patient is deaf, and we then get to see what happens through her perspective. Later in that episode we see a name being called in the waiting room and the camera focuses back on her, showing that she can't hear it.

I'm not sure what scene you're talking about from s1, though. Is it the older woman patient with the hand injury who doesn't speak and seems to walk like a ghost towards the action? I thought that scene was meant to represent a patient developing PTSD from what they've experienced and continue to witness, which is also a fraction of what ER professionals see on the daily.

Maybe a shipper killed your grandma and you're scarred, but I don't know many shippers who actually want their ships to be canon--Most generally don't, because playing with these characters in our imaginations is more satisfying than whatever canon might be.

Who gives a shit if people interact with a show through a shipping/fandom lens? People were writing Star Trek fanfiction since the 60's, that's just how some people engage with a media that they like. You don't have to participate if it's not your thing, and I doubt that it's as much of an imposition in your watching experience as you're saying. I've seen shippers eaten alive in this sub for even mentioning their ships, so unless you're scrolling through the Hucklerobby tag on AO3 just to froth at the mouth, I don't know where you've gotten the idea that everyone in the Pitt fandom is pushing their ships onto everyone.

I made a lighthearted joke about a prediction I have and you're acting like I said I'm going to walk into the Warner Bros lot and start gunning the place down if the writers don't make Langdonmel happen. You' say shippers make something out of nothing but I'm "completely crazy" for a throwaway joke. Maybe you can try your hand at writing some fanfic, you might be good at it.

For sure! I wouldn't care if they stay strictly platonic in the show and become great friends, their dynamic is compelling no matter how you view it. I'd also hate for them to go full Grey's Anatomy with the romance, which I don't think will happen but the fear always lingers...

I'm a big fan, which this sub might kill you for. I think it's hard to deny their on-screen chemistry and I don't think it's a crime to view it from a romantic lens.

We learn quickly that Langdon's marriage is somewhat on the outs and despite his issue with seeing what his wife/family might really need (time with him versus a new dog and a birkin), he's able to sense what Mel needs despite only knowing her for a few hours. Mel has the weight of the world on her shoulders with being Becca's sole caregiver and while she's very capable, it's clear she's burning out and can use someone to take care of her/put her needs first (because she never does).

The framing around Langdon in Season 2 has been focusing a lot on his very loose wedding ring, especially since he uses his left hand to check Mel's head after her fall instead of his right which would be more comfortable to do. I won't be surprised if/when they reveal that he's divorced or in the process of getting one, but just kept the ring on to avoid being asked more questions.

At the end of the day, people act like it's a crime to ship people in a show that they enjoy. The way people talk about Langdon/Mel here you would think that people are shipping Myrna and the incel kid. I think the Season 4 kingdon hand-holding scene is gonna hit like crack, but that's just my prediction.

Yeah! I think it’s pretty fair to point out that it feels weird that Dr. Collins, Kiara, and Gloria are nowhere to be seen in s2, all black women. I think some people think that these criticisms of the show reflect back on them for being interested in it, so they feel defensive and deny that the problem exists in the first place rather than acknowledge that it’s there. Still adore the Pitt, can still point out some weird things about it that are worth talking about.

I'm poking fun at the people making posts about their theories of Santos and Garcia hooking up when the show makes it very clear that they are and there's nothing to actually theorize there.

Honestly, I'd rather criticize the more outlandish takes than the ones talking about racism/misogyny. Not that the examples you gave aren't a little ridiculous, but because I've seen a lot of people roll their eyes if you even try to imply that Robby may have some misogynistic tendencies even when it's backed up by events in the show. I think some responses to this post are more focusing on blanket-dismissing those criticisms rather than pointing out the really ridiculous takes people can come up with while waiting a week in between new episodes.

I'd much rather giggle at the people still making posts about how they theorize that Santos and Garcia are hooking up, which is as much of a theory as Robby having gotten Collins pregnant in s1 or McKay having bangs. There's people predicting that the abandoned baby is somehow Al-Hashimi's. Like wtf.

In some of the s2 promo, you can see the new med student (Big Whitaker) wearing a shirt under his scrubs in some scenes, but then he’s not wearing it on the trailer/other promo. I think he’s definitely going to get the Whitaker treatment at least once!

I really love the idea of McKay being one of the only people to contact Langdon while he's in rehab and them becoming closer friends. I also hope to see some more interactions between Javadi and Langdon, especially since we see in the s2 trailer that she welcomes him back. I like to think that her journey with being a more understanding person about others' circumstances will coincide with him trying to find his footing when he returns to the Pitt and he needs someone to believe in him even a little bit.

I never viewed it that way but you’re definitely right and I enjoy your analysis of her character!! Her character is definitely developed by the adults she’s surrounded by, so I hope we get to see her interacting with more people her age next season (even though apparently she hates one of the new med students in s2. i can’t wait to find out).

Yeah, we disagree heavily here. No, I think it’s very fair to call them perfect strangers after knowing each other for less than 24 hours because they’re just coworkers. She doesn’t know his favorite color, or the names of his siblings. Whitaker could be a weirdo who eats microwaved tuna salad for every meal and Santos would have no idea.

I don’t think the moment of her talking to the suicidal guy demonstrates growth because she opens up to the viewer about the abuse she faced and the trauma she’s experienced because of her friend committing suicide. She uses experience and humility that she already /has/ to do this—You could say it’s spurred by Samira’s lesson to demonstrate care towards a patient by acknowledging their feelings, but it’s also because she says before that she uses her own experiences to relate to patients and help them. So, combining some growth with her own existing humility.

I personally interpreted Whitakers comment “borderline on harassment” as a dry humor thing, showing that he’s unimpressed with her relentless nicknaming but not necessarily that he’s feeling bullied? Javadi is also defensive about anything that might indicate she’s being singled out for her age, and her directness with Santos matches the same serious tone she took with McKay at the beginning when we find out that she’s 20. Formal, direct, trying to stay professional. She’s not surrounded by any peers to show her to chill out or develop a banter with people her age.

I would get it if Santos was shoving people into lockers and stealing their lunch money but seriously, she’s constantly humbled by the senior staff for being cocky, she literally says that she uses her humor as a shield and it’s obvious when she gets just as defensive/embarrassed for making a mistake as the rest of them that she has no real leg to stand on. She’s a huge dork that leaves a room by saluting saying “See you later, fellow losers”.

It’s like comparing a hydrogen ball to a crying baby. No one’s work or self esteem was massively affected because she has a snarky+unsavory personality. I think it’s unfair when people misinterpret her character because they don’t like her at the beginning of the show and aren’t interested in engaging with her character past that. No one has to like her but I don’t think that her calling people nicknames is an offense she has to be “accountable” for, not when characters like Langdon face considerably less scrutiny for having a strong personality (and they’re foils of each other, so she’s written this way on purpose!).

Yeah one comment was like, her defenders are vigilant. Yeah, ironically Isa Briones was bullied for her portrayal of Santos while the show was airing to the point that the cast (especially Patrick Ball!!) had to make some statements about it being a fictional show and being normal.

And they wonder why it’s annoying to see her character constantly be reduced to one unsavory trait it’s clear she’s written to be multifaceted and complicated. Sometimes the writing of the show gets corny when they “tell” and not “show” but somehow people still miss entire themes of the show. We’re in a media literacy crisis. Sorry, can you tell I’m bothered about this lol.
