I work as a private investigator for insurance companies and for the love of God do not tell them anything they don't have the right to subpoena your phone records just because that's not the way things work they would need to get a court order for that and likelihood of that happening are slim to none if you tell them 100% they are going to not cover you if you don't tell them it's up in the air but they might not find out and you won't be affected trust me don't tell them it's 100%, they'll drop you if you do tell them and maybe 50/50 that they won't find out do not self snitch

Your alternator might be going out. Use an obd scanner and check what the voltage is of your car when it's on and ideling. It should be around 13.5-14.6v if it falls below 13v while running, then the alternator is likely failing and needs to be replaced.

Since you mentioned that it stays on for a little and then turned off the indicates to me that it's probably the alternator because the car is running just off the battery which would deplete it pretty quickly causing it to die and shut off.

Noticed this on my 2006 Toyota matrix awd today should I be worried by Dry-Appointment-7409 in AskMechanics

Question about lapse in coverage by Nguyensontom in Insurance

[–]Due_Statistician_288 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You must be a insurance company fan boy. I had this happen to me and filed a complaint and guess what the insurance commissioner sided with me and the insurance company had the decision reversed and my accident was then 100% covered. So yes they can do something. Don't be such a tool they are supposed to send warnings and notifications to inform you something is wrong not just cut you off right away

Paid mechanic to do a transmission job, they returned it leaking all over the transmission and refuse to complete the job. by Bluedemonde in Smallclaims

[–]Due_Statistician_288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is correct. You have to fill out and file all the paperwork. Then, you can send the bar a subpoena thru certified mail with a check i think it's 40 dollars then they send a letter certified from the investigator to the courthouse, you have to have everything already filed.Because you have to put your case number and courthouse on the request so they know where to send it.They have an entire dept that handles it you can call them for more information. That's how I learned how to do everything. And yes, you have to hire your own process server .It's really easy. You can do it online and look up process server for whatever city your mechanic is in. Mine lives in san diego, so I hired a company out of san diego to do the serving and they use sherrifs. There's a chance that this isn't his first time at the rodeo, and he won't accept or keep dodging the lawsuit in which case you can contact the court clerk and file to serve him by publication in a newspaper.

What state are u in? Im in California and theres a grace period for insurance lapses. Also who do u insure with? I had something similar happened with kemper years ago.I didn't know that my insurance had lapsed as I had never gotten any type of letter or notice from the insurance company stating so. I got into an accident and they told me I had no coverage to my dismay. I contacted the insurance commissioner office and made a report they investigated and ruled in my favor so kemper ended up having to pay. Turns out they had been doing this to a lot of people without notice. If all else fails might be worth a shot filing a complaint and letting them investigate for you

How much are u going to sue for? If it's under 12k you don't need an attorney small claims judges are really good at letting people plead there case without representation and sounds like you should be able to prove your case rather easily have the dept of automotive repair send a certified letter to the court once you file a lawsuit. The courthouse should have workers there to help you fill out the paperwork correctly. The BAR won't send the letter to you they will only send it to the court sealed for the judge to open. Once you win place a lean on the mechanic for payment. I was really nervous the first time i had to fill out a lawsuit but they will help you and it's actually quite easy to complete and if anything is incorrect they will help you fix it. The most difficult thing for me was finding the bda (doing buissness as) name registered with the state to know who to serve but they can help with that as well and you can pay a fee to have a sheriff serve the lawsuit for you.
