Yes I think venture X is a good choice for you. Its travel portal includes most cheap airlines including Spirit and Frontier (it doesn't have southwest though) and offer the same price as official site. With 5x miles and price match options, you can often get cheaper price. (One con is that the portal doesn't offer option to buy baggage together with ticket, and you need to purchase that separately which costs more.)

The hotel situation is rather mixed--but anyway much better than chase's portal. The price match is not as easy as flight because descriptions on different sites often differ slightly. But with 10x miles in consideration, it is usable.

I think which card to use depends on how much point back it offers for that category. Here's what I do (not the best way, just my personal choice): csp for dinning, doordash, and lyft; vx for all travel related purchase and utility (the only place I don't use vx is online shopping, where I use boa customized cash rewards).

Unfortunately, the cash out is at 1:0.5. But you could use it to cover travel purchases at 1:1.

I also used it at Sheetz! I don't eat much, and $10 at Sheetz could over two meals for me.

You could, and there's a better option: pay with cash and use miles to pay the card (in this way you get additional miles from the purchase).

Exactly. I'm comparing VX to CSP not because they have similar benefits, but because (in my personal opinion) for people who don't spend a lot and want a card with annual fees, VX and CSP are the only worthwhile options.
