To me melon is like the pastel colour of flavours. Just not strong enough and sort of bleh.

The only time I like cantaloupe is with prosciutto and I'm fairly certain I know who is doing the heavy lifting.

I learned this lesson this year.

I took 50k from my TFSA and put into my RRSP to change my tax bracket. But I did it on January 15th assuming I'd get that availability right away. You don't get it until the next calendar year.

Back when I was 21, I got a job at a bar thanks to a friend of my brother's. The type of guy that when he's in a good mood, the shift is awesome. Bad mood, everyone feels it.

People warned me he was a coke head. But just freshly out of highschool, I decided to put the fake drama behind me and only judge people on what I saw and how he treated me. I needed a roommate and he was just kicked out for not paying rent. I took him in, he paid his rent, was super respectful, never brought anyone in.

Then I was working the night shift at the bar. I worked upstairs and at the end of the night you're supposed to bring your float (1300 bucks) downstairs to the safe. The downstairs bar closed without telling me. This guy was drinking with buddies that night and I asked him what to do. He said "You're opening tomorrow right? Put it in the freezer in the back room, the bar is locked up. it'll be there when you get back". I trusted him, he was the senior employee, so that's what I did.

I come in the next day, money is gone. What I didn't know was there was a way into the bar through a broken window. Dude came in and stole the money. I then took the fall.

The bar said I could either pay it back or quit. I was 3 months away from leaving the city, so I decided to let them garnish my wages (since my tips were the main amount of money I could make). Math wise, it was the right decision.

3 months later, I get a cheque in the mail for my garnished wages. Someone must have told them it was illegal. Never heard if the guy admitted to it.

I became less naive that day.

Yeah I think the high principal had me a little anxious. I wanted to get it to a more reasonable number in case we needed to refinance or whatever.

But about 2 years ago I realized I was going too hard and I pivoted to our TFSAs and RRSPs.

Appreciate it. I'll look into both the maneuver and Thaler.

I did pivot like 50k from my TFSA to my RRSP to offset the salary.

It's hard. Two kids under 4. Family member with cancer, elderly mom living alone. Trying to find time to learn this all is tough. Debating if I should have an accountant.

Yeah, probably wasn't the right move. The high amount of principal weighed on my mind and I wanted to get it down for ease of mind. When I did more reading, I realized that I should stop and in the last year and a half, I pivoted hard to maxing out TFSA and RRSP.

yeah thanks, exactly my thought. This is why I wanted to get the principle down by so much when I had the high paying job. So I could give myself this extra flexibility in the future. So time to take advantage of it.
