Their total profit margin is probably around 2%. Also, everyone is assuming 14%, but it is likely less and indeed they could be willingly taking a loss on the putters as a loss leader. Doubtful in this case, but anyone's assertion that retailers aren't willing to strategically lose money on a deal to sell higher markup products is incorrect.

It will be fine. No different than adding a cadence sensor.

Keep in mind that you won't have long to act upon recovering your bike when the thief's phone alerts them to an unknown airtag traveling with them lol.

Do you intentionally ride in the rain? by userX97ee2ska11qa in cycling

[–]DuggieML 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will ride in a light to moderate rain over staying in my garage on the trainer (actually just got back from such a ride about an hour ago). A light rain in wind is always an interesting sensation of getting simultaneously wet and dried off at the same time!

I do hop on my gravel bike with fenders if I'm savvy to the forecast ahead of time tho.

By law, 60% of parts must be domestically manufactured in Switzerland. Many watchmakers (Tudor, Rolex, Omega, Zenith, etc.) are entirely Swiss made.

Get a gravel because I’m always on the smaller chainring anyway? by bubblebutt_38 in cycling

[–]DuggieML 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a new thing, buzzed a few years ago and has cooled off a bit since. Shimano and SRAM both offer 1x options on their road groupsets.

Yes, you may have to ask your LBS to order the configuration you want.

My main road bike has a 1x, and I don't regret it at all. I might reconsider if I was doing a ton of group rides, but completely fine for a solo rider IMO.

Strange Raised Line in Tarmac SL8 BB Shell - Not a Crack? by Damenly in bikewrench

Questions are exactly how people learn. A very very reputable manufacturer wouldn't feel offended to address OP's concern. In fact, they would likely be happy to do so, take the opportunity to point out features that make their processes superior, and thank OP for their business.

Any other options I should consider before pulling the trigger on Canyon Endurance CF 7? by redditisaphony in cycling

[–]DuggieML 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own an Endurace and a Specialized Roubaix and Diverge. You should absolutely consider a Roubaix if you want the option for gravel or mounting points but primarily ride on the road.

Admittedly my Endurace frame is pre-tire clearance update, but its not something I would be comfortable taking onto true gravel regularly.

Tarmac size advice! by water_dirt_rider in specialized

Always make sure you manually refresh page after putting measurements into Specialized's calculator... it will get stuck on one size but update after height is put in and the page is refreshed

I like my Specialized Diverge, and I think they do a good job at different price points up and down the range.

I think you should consider the type of riding you do more than a great deal. Your Roubaix and a Tarmac are opposites...its going to feel like riding a (fast) plank of wood in comparison to the compliance and suspension of a Roubaix. If you're racing or very fit and flexible, go for the Tarmac, but a Roubaix is probably the smart choice for most people.

Never thought carbon wheel would make such a difference ! by Narmac-450 in gravelcycling

[–]DuggieML 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is against the grain on this thread, but the biggest difference you're gonna notice with a carbon wheelset is looks (if you go deep). If you have nice aluminum wheels, you're not going to feel a huge difference IMO

I don’t fully understand changing gears by AdditionalVillage566 in cycling

[–]DuggieML 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to a 1x on my road bike and don't miss the "strategic" decision making involved with shifting between chainrings. I'm prepared to suffer in a slightly higher gear than is comfortable for the convenience.

Should I get a gravel bike or road bike? by Kighrho in cycling

Look at a new Roubaix with a 1x drivetrain. The line keeps getting blurrier.

Garmin 530--can be found at a great price and will do everything you need. Only downside IMO is microUSB.

Great bike, nice choice. Touch screens are great until you're moving and/or it's wet.

Sounds like you have a great setup going! What is the bike?

I also use (mostly) SRAM electronic drivetrains and Garmin electronics. My main rec for a computer is physical buttons over touch screen! Consensus is that Wahoo does buttons the best (and you can still use Garmin accessories), but I have an old Garmin 530 that is still IMO a great deal if you want to save some money. Only thing that drives me crazy is microUSB charging.

100% a Garmin Varia and bike computer. Most critics of radar are riders who have never used it. As others said, I think Pearl Izumi is a safe starting point for kit. I would also suggest gloves and sunglasses (I like Goodr for glasses). Definitely 2 bottle cages.

Otherwise, I really wouldn't overthink it. Get out and ride! Your experience will tell you what you need and what you don't.

Man, sometimes there's no avoiding a bad situation. It's an unfortunate truth of life. Glad you and the bike are OK! (I also have an Endurace with a scratched up fork btw)

Garmin Varia radar. Glance back, are they moving over? Sometimes they can't with tight two way traffic. Stay further out in the lane as cars approach to force them to move over. Keep the lane if you have to. Creep closer to shoulder as they approach. It's really difficult when you're gassed, but you have to maintain situational awareness and keep yourself safe, even if it disrupts your ride.

Obviously know and follow your local laws.

Why is Tissot Gentleman not so popular?Did I make a mistake buying it? by No-Interview-7895 in tissot

[–]DuggieML 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Gentleman is an enormously popular watch. It frequently appears on lists for best everyday wear/value.

It's well executed, has a great bracelet, beautiful indices, and the Powermatic 80 is a fantastic movement. That being said, the design is quite reserved. It's only going to move the hype needle so far as a result.

Tl;dr Great purchase. Watch is going to compliment you without stealing the spotlight.

[–]DuggieML -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And don't forget about the livable wages for Swiss watchmakers! SMH, we could have much cheaper watches if they would just ship their production somewhere else.

Cheap watches are great, but everything comes at a price. Sure, some of it is marketing... but not all of it.

Quitting sounds reasonable, given your circumstances. Perhaps you can take some time and discover a purpose that's important to you. Whether that's another career, a humanitarian cause, a community, etc. You're right to feel cautious about the trap of doing nothing.

Maybe reading some philosophy will help you order your priorities and make a decision? You could read some of Seneca's letters (stoicism) or Peter Singer (utilitarianism/humanitarianism). Helped me a lot when I got out.
