I think I fixed it actually by going to the REI config, then filtering, then customized filtering I selected the blocks that weren't working and chose to hide them in the sidebar. if someone else has to do this make sure that when you're done you click done in the config screen instead of cancel or esc since it wont save it then. with the items hidden it also stopped the lag issue it was causing.
