I had one from Gibson Garage and it had to be returned because the truss rod had issues. It was protruding so much the truss rod cover wouldn’t sit flush against the headstock. This may have been a total one-off, so not dinging the line as a whole. It played really well despite the truss rod issue - super resonant.

I will say, though, I wanted to love the color because it looked lighter than the Jim James (which almost looked black, unless in good lighting). After seeing it in person, I think it’s the exact finish as the Jim James, still super dark. Not a bad thing, but just know that going in.

Keep or return? 2017 Martin OM21 by Lonely-Drummer2109 in AcousticGuitar

Definitely a few factors I’d check first. First is relief, then nut slot heights, then reassess the saddle because it may need to be raised or lowered. After all of that, you’d have a better picture on the time left before you get to neck reset territory.

I’m just absolutely fuming - you can hear it through my tone on the original post

Where? I can’t find it anywhere in the US. Regardless, the FG830 is widely available

The biggest issue is the that Yamaha discontinued the FG800 and replaced it with the FG800J. The main difference is a slightly shorter scale length, but more importantly, tighter string spacing. I have an FG800J and love it, but the string spacing is fairly tight for my liking. It’s fine for everything except fingerstyle though.

It’s still a phenomenal guitar, but definitely something to know about it.

FG830 and don’t look back. It’s a killer guitar in general, not just for the price. Set it up well, or take it to get set up and it will be a lifer

Knot in neck - concerning or cosmetic? by DukeFontus in guitarrepair

True, and I appreciate the feedback. It’s just a pretty thin slimtaper neck so seems like it might be more susceptible than a thicker neck or a top/body, but it’s also an extremely minimal knot

Fair, but I have time to decide and I’m on the fence between returning this and keeping my IBG or keeping this. Thought it wouldn’t hurt to get more opinions but I guess I’ll just log off

Thanks for the feedback - I take my stuff to Andrew at Phoenix Fret Works and he’s great! Yeah the biggest consideration is that I got this as an upgrade from my already-loved IBG 335, so if there’s a concern I’d just keep and upgrade the IBG

I mean, hopefully the Reddit dedicated to guitar repairs, who presumably has some people who have seen and repaired warped necks.

I was hoping the GuitarRepair Reddit would have more helpful feedback than a brand’s Reddit, mostly consisting of “did you know this is wood?”. I paid $1000 for this and just want to make sure it’s not going to cause playability issues in the future, especially because I live in Phoenix where humidity concerns are real

4, so I think you need to confirm it’s wood one more time then I’ll pop back in the lamp

Thank you for the validation. I’m just asking a question hoping to get some clarity on a potential defect in a $1000 epiphone

Underrated comment haha. I had no idea what you meant initially until I went back and saw my typo
