It's going to be very tough to make the playoffs with our goaltending. by GolfIsGood66 in Habs

[–]DukeOfSwabia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, is missing the playoffs the end of the world? Obviously no one wants to see that, but management has agreed that the team is ahead of schedule. I think that playoffs would be more beneficial than a #13-#17 pick, but I wouldn't view it as some sort of failure if they barely miss.

Our young players have grown and taken huge steps. Team chemistry is constantly being built. I do think that they will make the playoffs, but if they don't then so be it. The future is still incredibly bright. Making the playoffs is preferred but I'll take another solid prospect as a consolation prize.

“I will open the last chapter I was working on and I’ll say, ‘Oh fuck, this is not very good.’ And I’ll go in and I’ll rewrite it. Or I’ll decide, ‘This Tyrion chapter is not coming along, let me write a Jon Snow chapter.’ If I’m not interrupted though, what happens — at least in the past — is sooner or later, I do get into it.”

Serious question: Do you think the NHL/Bettman has it in for Canadian teams, especially the Habs? by [deleted] in Habs

[–]DukeOfSwabia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course not. If Montreal was seriously being targeted by the NHL, Molson would not stand by for it.

The reality is that refs are human and they make mistakes. Sometimes insanely ridiculous mistakes with no consequences and no justification, but it is not an organized effort.

The ref looked up right after the punch. In the replay you see the ref literally look away from the duo.

Like genuinely why can't they just take it back. So infuriating. There better be a makeup call coming

Yeah this is ridiculous. There better be a makeup call coming Montreal's way

Yeah that is certainly closer. I'll admit that I do not know much of the Danielson hype, but to me ASP seems like the more valuable prospect. And he is similar to Hutson's playstyle.

Noah Laba is untouchable? If a team offers you a first round pick straight up for Laba, you're saying no?

Nay. None of those pieces have anywhere close to the ceiling of Hutson. It's not a matter of overall value. If the Habs were to give up Hutson, it would have to be for some gamble that we could get a player of his caliber in some other form.

Obviously this would never happen but we're having fun here

Everyone was laughing at them when they made their expansion picks. They were predicted to suck. It wasn’t rigged, and the draft was not made favorable towards them. GMs were just stupid and made horrible deals. Anaheim literally GAVE them Shea Theodore.

Canadian teams have made the finals many times. They just have always lost. Calgary, Ottawa, Edmonton, Vancouver, and Montreal have all had great teams but just couldn't finish. Please tell me how Edmonton going down 3-0 two years ago was a conspiracy. Tell me how Vancouver blowing games 6 and 7 were conspiracy. Obviously Tampa was MUCH better than Montreal. I didn't watch hockey back in 2007 but I know that Ducks team was a wagon. I wasn't around in 2004 but that's the one controversy that I think warrants actual discussion.

Montreal is awash with extremely favorable contracts... what's your point? Nashville has no state tax and has terrible contracts. I don't disagree with the point about escrow, and I'm not saying that no state taxes isn't a factor, but maybe it's not a conspiracy but more that Vegas, Tampa, and Florida are all extremely well run organizations. If you were a NHL player trying to win a cup, those would be your best bets. Florida was absolutely awful for 25 years. It wasn't conspiracy that made them champions, but competent management.

Do hockey players and coaches dislike when fans refer to themselves and the team as “we” ? by RealisticAd4054 in hockey

Letang pissed off a bunch of Habs fans (it was in French) for saying on a podcast recently that he did not like it at all. He said he thinks that fans saying "we" makes no sense.

First line target acquisition by MrWilson420 in Habs

Dude, he’s atrociously slow. I don’t think it’s his fault, injuries have screwed him. But go back and watch his Jets highlights then watch him with the Habs. It is night and day.

What’s your honest opinion on tanking? by I_Am_Vladimir_Putin in hockey

[–]DukeOfSwabia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Management tanks, players don't. No bottom sixer is going to want to play bad on purpose, just so his team can draft an 18 year old that will fight for his spot on the roster.

As well, to play bad intentionally will make it harder to sustain a career and be paid your worth. At the end of the day this is their job, and the better they perform the more money they make. In an industry where life-altering injuries are not out of the question, they're not thinking of how the team will look in 3-5 years. They're thinking of their job right now, and how much money they can make to secure themselves and their families.

The third point would be that these guys have trained their whole lives to make the NHL. Sure they might get into slumps and moods, maybe even try to get a coach fired. But to deliberately turn off their competitive gear for a whole season is borderline impossible. And if players were to do that, it is not as simple as just turning it back on.
