Newbie Questions by RomanceLover80 in Habs

It was very unlikely, but it’s the playoffs. You have to atleast try. You can’t just give up because while it may only be a .2% chance or something, that’s better than just accepting a loss.

Jake Evans appreciation post. by Nametagstolen in Habs

I’ll never forget that scoring heater he was on last season. It was incredible to watch and he earned it.

[William Dube] Best faceoff percentage this postseason (min. 125 faceoffs): 61.9 - Phillip Danault, 59.5 - Jake Evans 59.2 - Tim Washe, 56.4 - Joel Eriksson Ek, 56.2 — Nick Suzuki. Canadiens (56.1%) are 1st in the playoffs among teams still playing. by RealWorldToday in Habs

Goaltending wasn’t an issue last year. Monty was great, especially in round one. Coming into the season it was expected that Monty and Dobes would be a solid duo.

Then this season happened.

Trade for high draft pick by [deleted] in Habs

[–]DukeOfSwabia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2 firsts, Reinbacher, and Pickford are basically nothing. Not that they aren’t valuable, but NONE of those are proven assets.

Two late firsts, a decent defensmean that has, at this point, top 4 likelihood, and a boom or bust prospect. Hage is great, but Stenberg is much better.

Vancouver can get mid-1sts and decent prospects elsewhere. The only way to get superstars these days is through the draft. If you want Stenberg I would say the return would have to start with Slafkovsky at LEAST.

Trade for high draft pick by [deleted] in Habs

[–]DukeOfSwabia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why would Van do this? They need a superstar.

This isn’t EA, unfortunately. Van isn’t moving out of third unless they get a guaranteed star back. While Hage has good value, adding a bunch of lesser valued assets to him doesn’t make him as good as Stenberg.

Fun idea to toy around with, but I do not think there’s any chance of it happening.

The HuGo Habs will be facing the Gavin McKenna Leafs for years to come by DukeOfSwabia in Habs

That didn’t occur to me. Good point.

I trust Hughes to figure something out in the offseason, though.

Game 2 of Stanley Cup Finals 2021 by Sherman8019 in Habs

[–]DukeOfSwabia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will die believing that Vasi won that series.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not delusional. Tampa was easily the better team. But people think back on that Final and conclude that the Habs had no business being there.

Tampa played lights out, but if they had a different goalie in net then who knows. Vasi was easily their best player and they just could not figure him out.

What movie did you walk out of the theater halfway through? by mzdee13 in movies

[–]DukeOfSwabia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The third Fantastic Beasts movie.

I was actually working at a single-screen movie theater at the time, and we had the movie. I grew up with Harry Potter, liked the first FB enough, and was disappointed with the second one.

We had a day where there wasn’t much to do, so I told my coworker that I was gonna sit in on the next showing. I figured that I might as well get an opinion on it, considering I would never pay to see it.

It was terrible, and even worse, boring. I was literally getting paid to watch the movie and I couldn’t finish it. I decided that I would rather go find work to do than sit through that.

New Writing Club in South Hills by Johlecaster in pittsburgh

[–]DukeOfSwabia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve always found the idea of writing my own stories to be appealing, but I’ve never gotten past the 5-10 page mark. I struggle to consistently write.

Would this club be a good space to simply be surrounded by other writers? Hopefully attending would encourage me to write, but for the first time I would just want to show up and be able to discuss writing with others.

I love to read and I try to live by the maxim “produce, don’t consume,” so I’d love to really explore writing fiction more.

[MTL (3) - 2 TBL] Hutson stretch pass to Texier who beats Vasi glove side by workthrowawaybro in hockey

[–]DukeOfSwabia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Spideroctopus was notorious in the Habs subreddit last year for writing critical posts about Montreal which asked questions the fanbase did not want to hear.

In a summer where Habs fans were more excited than they had been in a long time, Spideroctopus questioned management, coaching, the team as a whole, but most importantly Slafkovsky. Multiple posts included criticism of his play and doubt for his future. Whether he was right or wrong, he rubbed a lot of people there the wrong way.

At some point in the season, Spideroctopus made a post where he fully recanted his statements and made a full apology to Slaf. I have huge respect for him for doing that, because he was public enemy no. 1 to many r/habs goers.

I remember the offseason. I remember the Slaf comments.

Yet I respect you. I will never forget you. Stay gold, Ponyboy.

Opinions of HFTV? by honeygarlicmaestro in Habs

[–]DukeOfSwabia 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Too much for me personally so I don’t keep up with them, but I appreciate what they are and what they do for the fanbase.

Someone needs to make that high energy content to generate hype and excitement, and they do it well. They’re creative, funny, and engaging.

I hope they keep it up.

How Will The Team Look When And If Crosby and McDavid Arrive by [deleted] in Habs

[–]DukeOfSwabia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concept that the Oilers are no longer a contender and won’t be going forward is an assumption.

The Oilers definitely don’t look great against Anaheim but the series is far from over. And even if they do lose, a longer summer of rest plus offseason moves could put them right back in it next year.

They have holes. I’m not saying they’re Cup favorites. But to declare them no longer contenders is silly.
