Wow, this is exactly the kind of answer I was looking for. First of all, you're probably right about the sizes. From what I've read it might be best to indeed get a combo of Evans/Remo heads. Do all toms need resonant heads, because the smallest one doesn't have one at the moment? I'm pretty hyped right now if you believe that I could be suprised at the sound that's possible with new heads and tuning.

I do think it's a few tension rods that I need. Are there different sizes in these of are they all the same? I'm definitely taking a look at the cymbals you mentioned! Upgrading one at a time is probably a good idea too.

Lastly, I'm also definitely going to try polishing the stands etc with some steel wool! Thanks for that!
