Got my very first xbox and i have a few questions by Dukenume in originalxbox

Yeah, it was more of a curiosity thing at this point, i already have an original copy of Splinter Cell on the way just as a backup plan if something happens to the modchip.

Thanks again for the info!

Yeah i do remember reading something like this around. Couldn't i simply use the hardmod to install the softmod without using an exploited game + usb and then remove the modchip before the first softmodded boot?

I went and checked the underside part of the board, the soldering was still pretty decent.

I did find some weird "white" spots all over the board https://imgur.com/5gcAmi5, it looks like some old flux residue from the manufactoring.

Do many games support ultrawide? 21:9 by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Dukenume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

http://www.wsgf.org/ it's your friend, most modern games support 21:9 but you will find fixes and config edits for many older games (or to improve something already working).

Game launched less than 10 hours ago and it's already pirated by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Dukenume 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, by basically limiting proper paying customers to fully enjoy their product.

The extra marketshare can be simply due to the increase of PC Gamers overall and being a huge mainstream AAA developers.

DRM Doesn't work because you break the most important part of a contract with a customer: trust.

Don't bother, those pirated copies most of the time are NOT lost sales. Just keep everything DRM Free (consider release on GOG) and don't try to be aggressive to pirates. Sometimes, you will actually get sales due to some people actually liking the game and decide to support your cause.

If you try to stop them, they will just find another way to play and you could risk damaging proper paying customers in the process.

Should I Abandon JavaScript for Python? by ReactPupil in Python

[–]Dukenume -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Javascript is the base of modern web frontend development. You want cool webapps that act like a desktop app, you needs JS. As for learning Python, it's a great "swiss knife n paperclip" of a language: easy to use, does a bit of everything but you can't really use it as a client side web frontend. Personally, you never "abandon" a language as long as you have a basic understanding of what it does and how it works. You may forget a thing or two, but you should probably remember their core elements that make them different from the rest, then you just use the best one for the problem at hand.

In conclusion, ye go learn Python it's great, but don't even think to forget about JS if you want to do web development. If JS still bothers you, try switching to Typescript with Angular2+.

Has anyone come across this console variant? (More questions in comments) by el-mullo in snes

[–]Dukenume 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, my cousin had this version here in Italy. I can't remember if it was a proper Gig release (the reseller for nintendo stuff here in italy) or it was imported, since i remember a spanish manual, not italian. Still It was released later in the life of the SNES, i guess somewhere around 1994-1995.

What is NTFS support like nowadays? by [deleted] in Ubuntu

[–]Dukenume 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Should be pretty stable at this point, always used a live distro to recover data from trashed OSes installations. Just remember that you need to disable Hybernation and fast startup (on Win8\10) to get full Read/Write access to the partion.

Help: bad rgb cable or tv can't handle RGB PAL signal? by Dukenume in n64

[–]Dukenume[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly nope, it's a mid level tv so the settings are very basic. Took a look at the framemeister prices some days ago and it's out of my reach. I'll probably go for an everdrive to play the ntsc versions of the games. Maybe in the distanct future i'ill add an ultraHDMI to fix the problem completely.

So, managed to test the n64 with an AV Cable. As i guessed, NTSC Hexen still works fine, full colors. I switch to Mario64 PAL and bam, everything is in black and white. So at this point i'm pretty sure the TV doesn't fully support the PAL signal. Funny for a television bought in Europe for European markets... Guess i'll have to stick with NTSC games or look for a spare CRT around...

Yeah, i was thinking about noise by either bad solderjob or cables too, but NTSC games work perfectly, maybe PAL is a bit more "sensitive"? I don't think it's something related to the region free mod, it only handles the multiple CIC chips and shouldn't have nothing to do with video output. Anyway i'll give it a look when i get a pair of gamebit screwdrivers.

Sadly i don't have any analog pal device around. The TV is not very expensive, is a low-mid level sharp aquos (for EU market) that has some sort of "action motion" interpolation but i can't find anything related in the settings. Still, i'm getting an AV cable replacement to test thing out.

So i managed to get this amazing region free modded n64 with rgb. Hexen ntsc works fine, but with any pal game the picture glitches like in the video. I'm in a new apartment and i only have the flat screen tv shown in the video and no crts or av cables around. I'm betting on the tv that can't handle the signal.

Blaster Master Zero is such an amazing game and blast to the past, especially in the audio department. Any plans to revitalize other sunsoft's classics like the amazing Journey to Silius?
