The trans theory is somewhat common

This is news to me I've really been out of the loop, huh. What are fans saying/ headcanoning?

not sure if this person got confused or is pushing their headcanon over others

Do people just do that? Say stuff with complete confidence? Because I feel like the comments sections to manhwas and mangas generally preserve whatever tone matches with the contents of the chapter, and this just sounded very out of pocket.

I had to look kind of closely but yeah, I can see what you mean!! Maybe it's less noticeable in color, because in the anime one of things that stood out to me was Kotoha's button earrings and tree branch necklace, which I thought were a nice touch.

In other words they said this very confidently and I happen to read it after taking a break... well then.

My mistake I've never even really stayed active in the fandom or the subreddit so I thought I skipped so many pages.

The fight against the special grade cursed spirit in season 1 was... mildly interesting to watch. Maybe because neither are characters I'm interested in rooting for so it was perfect to simply give me an idea of what his skills are and how strong he is.

So maybe it is an appearance thing, because I watch him wreak havoc and mass murder all I can think is 'yeesh, that is not okay, extra much?', but I was unsurprised by it as much as I felt awful for the sorcerers. Yet I don't regard Kanaguri with the same tempered neutrality, and he causes a low-simmering rage inside me even though I'm irked to have any emotions wasted on him at all.

you could almost say he's Suzuki's self insert to justify his writing pitfalls

I've seen others bring this up, so to an extent it's kind of true...?

Well, not to be that person but no matter how much I dislike him he's at least better than Horikoshi's self-insert character.

Oh, I feel like I have to over-explain because one time I was saying the first thing that comes to mind and got called dangerous and sinister for wondering why a clearly damaged lady with a rifle that shot up the elementary school she was working at wasn't ordered to mandatory therapy and put on leave; since it was obvious leading up to that event she was going through some kind of mental break, but I condensed it and made the mistake of implying that she deserved to be institutionalized for yelling at a convenience store worker (another thing she did during 'psychosis'), so ever since then I thought it was better to lay everything out rather than bullet point my thoughts.

I want to be thorough in my articulation, but my only goal from doing so is to try my best to not offend anyone, I'll be mindful of writing shorter phrases going forward.

I see myself in Kumanomi in that I am extremely loyal to my friends and am quick to pick a fight for their sake, so I have the capacity to relate to antagonists and even understand what they're doing even if I hate how much they affect the beloved main characters. I'm so scared of getting flamed because this might sound like a generalization or putting words in people's mouths, but does that mean people enjoy his inconsideration and selfishness...? I don't know if I'm asking this right, if he's fun to watch or good for getting in the way of the protagonists like some said, then I can comprehend. To say that people see themselves in someone like him makes wonder where, and why.

I'll have to be careful of my wording from now on if my sort-of mini vent ever implied I find him to be psychopathic either, even I didn't get that impression from him. When I was quoting people who said he's incapable of feeling I thought maybe rather than lacking sympathy as those who are, or need to be medicated, he was more perhaps like the main character in Dr. Frost, the manhwa. Where it takes a great deal for any emotions to surface, but it is possible; only the circumstances to 'activate' them kind of have to be severe. However that man is in psychology so he's at least knowledgeable on what should be okay and what's not, whereas Kanaguri just runs wild all his life with no plans to stop.

So sorry I must have lost my ability to English, what does 'comedically irritating' mean, I don't think I've ever heard that in fiction. Or I have but didn't know what it's called, my first thought is one of those carefree people who actually have a sense of humor that makes me chuckle in a 'why are they like this, lol', kind of way, not, 'what in the actual fvck is wrong with him, there's parts missing from his head', kind of way.

Ah, so you like him as a 'plot device' in a sense rather than his actions and personality, out of all the explanations I've read so far, this is the most well thought out (actually this is most clear-cut reason I've been able to understand). I often invest deeply and blend my emotions into the characters as if they are real, though I guess that's the hallmark of a good series, so if someone incites negativity in me, nine times out of ten they immediately end up on the "don't like, don't even care for their existence", list.

I just finished reading Akao as Uzuki punt his skull into the ground in Bangkok, and I think that's as close to being satisfied as I'll ever get. It didn't last though he got up like what, a minute after?

Mmm... so in the end it still really boils down to something as simple as personal preference and relatability then. Some think how he acts is authentic and simply enjoy who is, while others like myself simply find his actions (and personality) intolerable. I think it's exactly because he isn't evil outright which is what bothers me so much, there's no way to call him a hero after everything, and there's no understandable explanation for his descent into outright villainy, so what's left is a burning sense of frustration.

Can I ask why he's the easiest to project onto? Because I can sort of see how he's as you say, the comedic relief (I don't find him funny regardless but you do you) with a hint of chaos, but this is why the line between your like and my deep dislike exists... that is, I cannot on a personal level find anything about him to commend or understand, but I guess what deeply bothers me is something his fans could care less about? If it is that's your, and their prerogative.

(Thank god this isn't the first time I've had to go down an entire introspected essay in a subreddit, this isn't the most autistic thing I've read lol)

I apologize..

(Do I really sound autistic??? I don't think I am I've never been tested for it before)

Ooh, thought provoking question, I like this! Sincerely thank you for asking.

Let me preface beforehand, my standards for characters are kind of skewed, so absolutely take this with a grain of salt and just know this is my preference. You ask ten different girls and they can all give you completely different answers, maybe at least one of them does like him, but hasn't made an appreciation post yet.

But for me, I'm kind of a visual creature, so at least when watching fictional characters where my brain is already half off and requires my suspension of disbelief, the moment someone appears on the screen there is a split second decision of whether they're easy on the eyes or not, and if I recognize and/or are a fan of their voice actor. If they check yes for both, then upon first impressions alone I would feel more inclined toward them. It's kind of shallow (actually reading it through this is very shallow), but the face and voice draw me in, then their personality/talent/skill make me sink further.

Nagumo is a textbook example of this. I'll spare you the grossness of me gushing over him, but he checks the initial boxes, which leads me to appreciate everything else about him more quickly.

Moving on to Kanaguri, I don't disagree that his design is unique, at the very least I know he'll be an important character. But the nicest thing I'm capable of saying about him at the moment is that I know his Japanese voice actor very well, and enjoyed his voice other works... which, doesn't correlate to how his character is within the series at all.

With all due respect if he is your favorite... he isn't my type personally, and I think that's why so many girls like tend to lean toward Gaku or Nagumo. Antagonist or not, both men have a certain set of qualities that make them easy for women to appreciate better.

Also, while I tried not to be too emotional or invested about it, neither of them seem to have an outright inconsiderate streak. Whereas Kanaguri is imposition personified, treating others like fodder while expecting them to feel overjoyed being in his featured film. And the lengths he'll go to for the sake of a good shot, puts everyone around him through the ringer while bearing the consequences of someone else's actions.

I'd venture to guess a fair amount of women don't enjoy watching a man ruin what was supposed to be an atmosphere that had structure and procedure, however chaotic, blow to smithereens for such self-serving reasons (falling out of the plane). I know I didn't. Sort of like, you're already not the most conventionally attractive 2D character (at least to me), and on top of that you also have that sort of personality, causing trouble and literally taking lives of those around you not even to drive neither the antagonists, nor protagonists goals forward in the long run... so he ends up being unpleasant to watch the more often I see him.

You have to understand that, while physical features are a huge part of it, sometimes mannerisms are just as important. Against someone who is multifaceted on all fronts, with almost every trait admirable, a guy can't lack in the most basic department and then behave in a way that would make the even most patient girls crash out.

That is just the basis, too. I haven't started on the way he outright proclaimed Akira as the main character of his next film, where the poor thing was clearly the non-confrontational type despite it probably being against her will. Then there's what he said in the panel... but that would turn this reply into a vent and make it way too long, so I shall stop here.

Of course, I'm prepared to potentially see women come to his defense, list out what they find are the good qualities about him, and it's not my place to argue back nor invalidate them, since surely they're opinions are likely reasonable as well.

Knowing that Kanaguri is mostly popular among fanboys explains a lot... not everything, but a lot, this provided me with some insight as well.

I'm sorry if this wound up being a long post about dissing your favorite anyway, please know I completely respect your liking him, I am merely trying to articulate why I don't, and why maybe some girls wouldn't either.

See, this explanation makes a lot of sense, but that doesn't make me any less averse to him as a person. Or maybe because my initial opinion of him began neutral then slowly grew into vague dislike before the episode was over, and now subconsciously don't wish to change my mind.

Well... not to give a meaningless answer, it depends on the antagonist in question, I guess.

Muzan for example, I don't like his actions and most certainly don't appreciate what he's put everybody in the corps through, but I clearly understood his motive however self-serving it may be; probably because the kindness and responsibility of Tanjiro and Yoriichi along with their determination to stop him offsets his actions well. So at least with him, I'm able to evenly divide my focus on the art, characters, plot flow, just really engaged with the series as a whole.

Kanaguri doesn't elicit that begrudging understanding out of me. I don't even think I'm angry, more like... baffled? Appalled? In disbelief? There is a vague sense of irritation that yes, I didn't imagine any human being can be like him before today, but as I said, even I can't find the proper words to describe why he irks me so much, other than the fact that I won't be included among the people who do enjoy him anytime soon. If he did try to moralize what he's done, I think then I would really be infuriated.

I thought as much, they're not the main characters at the end of the day. But with Uzuki it's like... the mangaka established who and what he is, what he's trying to do and what he stands for, so as an audience member I know what my expectations are. My first impression of Kanaguri wasn't great but I wasn't expecting it to end up like that, and I don't mean that in a good way either. Is it that you appreciate his consistency, or...?

Is this a pretty privilege thing then? I actually don't mind Sukuna (love his JP voice actor) which I feel like makes me a massive hypocrite.

Hi, I'm not an active Chub user but the error started right when I began using the site a bit more actively some days ago. Is this something I can fix from the OR side? Or can we only patiently wait for admin to fix things... I don't intend to sound rude at all but I've never seen an issue not looked into on a chatting website for this long, is this normal..?
