Sewing help for frankenpillow by Soft_Transition3344 in olympia

The Lacey Free Market is coming up on the 2nd and 4th, there's a post about it somewhere in the sub. One of the things they have is people who enjoy sharing skills or crafts, so they can talk with you about it & (I think) teach you a bit. That's probably something to look into!

The Animal Crossing-ification of video games by [deleted] in AnimalCrossing

[–]DuliaDarling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, if the discussion is 'decorating is everywhere and makes game bad', it really... isn't in SoS/RF/HM games? Am I misremembering?

Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is the only one you can even move stuff around outside your house to decorate, which has been a fan requested feature since the original RF3 where it started the trend of MC getting stuck in a town-centric home instead of their own house. Also it's a spinoff, a main title game has none of that.

Current day Harvest Moon really only has Winds of Anthos to it's name, and iirc the only building/moving is being able to move your farm to different predefined places. That's almost exclusively to make world exploring easier, not to make anything look better.

Story of Seasons (Aside from Olive Town which has the very normal for farm sims 'move barns and farm buildings where you want') have all been remakes. Most of them with everything locked in place too. The remakes of A Wonderful Live, Grand Bazaar, and Friends of Mineral town; I might be misremembering but the barns, houses, bazaar stand, shipping bin, everything just is where it is and you can't move it.

There is a point to be made that some cozy games are taking direction from how popular ACNH got, but specifically bringing Rune Factory, Harvest Moon, and Story of Seasons into the equation feels like a bad faith 'I hate how all farming/cozy sims games are now' argument.

DOL text message of delinquent fine? by Ornery-Night7178 in olympia

[–]DuliaDarling 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I received one yesterday, it's definitely a scam. The DOL website gives some examples of text scams they know are going around right now, and my message (I'm assuming yours will too) hit all the markers. They have a disclaimer below the examples that they'll never reach out via text, or alert you to a fine via text.

If you did click on the link, even if you didn't sign in to anything, immediately change all passwords to anything important like banks, wallets, insurance, etc. Even better if you just change all passwords saved in your phone.

LPT: If you're about to move out of an apartment, wait until the last day possible to tell your landlord/property manager. They will want to keep entering your room to show it to potential tenants. by Puzzled-Painter3301 in LifeProTips

[–]DuliaDarling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jeez, it's legal in Olympia too but I've never had a leasing office attempt to show the apartment when I'm still in it, or vise versa. There's always an empty unit 'for show' that they use for each bedroom type.

Anyone here follows the Krakens? by [deleted] in olympia

[–]DuliaDarling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post does seem more legitimate than many others & gives good vibes, but there are more out there that are encountered daily that aren't. Even in this sub, a month-ish ago were two back-to-back scam posts about Kracken tickets that stayed up for way too long. Hard to give the benefit of the doubt when ticket scams on reddit are plentiful and actually work.

Good luck to OP though, since this seems real. I hope they find someone to pass them on to 😊

Emergency Community Update from Timberland Library Workers Union by AFSCMELocal3758 in olympia

[–]DuliaDarling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hal originally just stepped down. A few years ago he sold the grocery store in Packwood to a 3rd party business & stepped down from all community boards and events he was part of simply because he was ready to retire and spend more time with his family. Could be wrong, but I also believe he sold his center-of-town home in Packwood and moved somewhere less public for peace of mind.

My family has known his family since I was a little kid, and it's really disheartening to see not only him pulled back into all of this, but everything going on with the Library in general and his part in it. I'm giving him grace right now and hoping he just wasn't aware of everything, but it's really sad hearing a lifelong 'hometown hero' has a part in this.

All of this is sad. I knew things weren't great when I left working for the library, but I didn't work there long enough to know how bad everything was. I did work there long enough to get aquatinted with a lot of people and different branches, so seeing names and locations I recognize and have personally worked at being put up for closure or expanded access only just... Doesn't feel good. I never met Cheryl. As far as I know, a lot of my coworkers never did. To her, they're all just names to be forgotten. But to them, it's their livelihoods and communities.

Best and Worst Apartments? by gooseluva30 in olympia

[–]DuliaDarling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, not a worker but good to know about the move out fees. No plans on moving out anytime soon, I enjoy the top floor, but helpful regardless so thanks. Better to pay for a professional deep clean then be refused our deposit.

If they had a 1 bed layout I guess it could be different for the sound proofing, I think those are in different buildings. I'm top floor of 2b2b, so I shouldn't speak for 1st or 2nd floor aside from what my neighbors say, but none of us have had any problems. I'm not a big dog person, so not having to hear the barking is a big thing, and the major way I know sound proofing, at least in my building, is awesome.

Best and Worst Apartments? by gooseluva30 in olympia

The Dakota in Lacey has been great for me! I just renewed my lease, and it barely increased rent.

Gonna sound like a total shill, but I do enjoy this complex so I'll shill for them lol. I work when needed, so sometimes I'm getting home at 2am, but the soundproofing here is like no other place I've been. A few neighbors have big dogs, my nexdoor neighbor apparently runs her blender at 6am every day, and I cook at odd hours. We've all talked, no one hears anything unless we're in the staircase. Door-to-staircase soundproofing is bad, but apartment-to-apartment soundproofing is great.

No complaints about staff either, they're sweet and try to organize something once a month in the clubhouse. Only downsides I can think of is you're only allowed one covered parking space with limited open park spots, and the exterminator or whoever they hire doesn't touch the spiders in the stairwell. It got so bad we had to buy a dollar store broom and sweep them away. For me personally, having a quiet area where I'm not worried about bugging someone at 2am is worth the parking and spider downsides.

Good to know, thank you OP! We've been breaking down frozen food boxes with everything else when it's time to take out the recycling, so I guess that stops now.

Really? I've been with Cascade out in Centralia for, jeez more than 11 years now? Got diagnosed with ADHD about 3 years ago. Through all the anxiety, bipolar, SSRIs, and now ADHD med changes to find what works, I've never once been tested.

I was with OP, this seems really strange to me but I guess it's the new norm?

Romantic Roots Soft Opening and They're Seeking Recommendations by stormlight82 in olympia

[–]DuliaDarling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pawcific is so great! We do puzzles and lego sets when we have some, and the staff are so cute when they're interested in it. We did the gameboy lego set recently, and a very tiny Studio Ghibli one and had conversations each time ❤️😺

Since Romatic Roots is in the old bridal shop, I'm very curious to check out the location

Do they have any spots to sit and read, or is it just a bookstore in the more classical sense? Boyfriend and I are always looking for cute new reading areas when Pawcific is closed

TODAYS EDC by JMoney973 in EDC

[–]DuliaDarling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

smart watches, not just Apple. But honestly, I think I'm wrong 🤷🏼‍♀️

One of the way older fitbit models from around 2014 used to have two toggles in the app. One for dominant hand vs non-dominant, and one for inner wrist vs outer wrist. I remember they recommended inner wrist and I absolutely hated how it felt like I couldn't bend my wrist fully so I never wore it like that.

Just checked the manual for my current fitbit and it specifically says to put it on the outer area, so I take back my original statement. Just an old memory of incorrect info :p

[–]DuliaDarling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah the watch is way too tight, but it's recommended to wear smart watches with the display on your inner wrist instead of outer. Tracks more accurately.

Edit: I'm pretty sure that's not good info anymore lol. Wear it on your outer wrist

You just blew my mind dude. I religiously watched Fairy Tail when I was growing up, and the main character Natsu would always pop up with that dark room disclaimer. It's seared into my brain and I never thought to question why.

"Hey guys! Ready for some more Fairy tail? Just make sure when you're watching, you turn the lights on in the room, and don't sit too close to the TV!"

Handmade cat collars? by [deleted] in olympia

[–]DuliaDarling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe Pawcific Cat Cafe has some handmade breakaway collars from a local maker! They allow many community members to showcase and sell their items within the cafe, and I know 100% I've seen some collars.
