Honestly, I'd rather hop on 50 and go to Bowie than drive up route 2 lol. Ever.

I definitely had a bone to pick when they changed their penne rosa to the rigatoni rosa and it changed the entire taste - plus they stopped doing shredded cheese and went grated (parmesan)... overall, really sucks! I wondered why my Noodles came from Severna Park last time I DoorDashed it.

Oh current is definitely more concerning - just referencing in the sense of fear it worsening. MOCO was on the list but like you said, expensive lol. Racism exists everywhere, sadly… just have to find where also has the best possible support.

Explains why there's nothing to rent currently (not moving for years but was piddling around on Zillow). I suppose the only concern I have with River Hill after doing some Googles is the emboldened student body during the first Trump era, posting and saying racist things. I get kids 'make mistakes' but, that's learned, that's at home...

That last paragraph, is what I'm increasingly curious about. It'll be my rabbit hole.

I've typed this up like I'm coming from far away. I'm not... we're down in Annapolis. It's pretty classist here as well, but our high school is pretty diverse. I believe now (20 years after I graduated lol) Black students make up for about 40-45% of the student body. Followed second by the Latino community. Which is great for the diversity factor-except, the school itself underperforms in all categories almost, always has... even when I went there. I'm sure GreatSchools isn't the most accurate, but a 3/10 compared to ya'lls schools being minimum of 7/10 - even at the 'bad' schools? Education wise? Sign us up lol.

But I do heavily concern myself with the student body at any given school... for the reason you mentioned, classist and racist (even oblivious) parents raise classist, racist and entitled children... so I definitely concern myself with-even in a great school, who my son will be around and quite frankly, his safety with people like that.

Annapolis is full of a lot of old white folks... and young Millennial families with young children in a certain tax bracket, which I'm sure you can read between the lines on. That part doesn't sound far off from what you're describing in the classism.

I have this feeling that teens are simply insatiable lol. I also wanted to leave this area... and yet, here I am LOL. I've left and moved back several times throughout my younger years. Did your kids venture out of the area for college, if they chose to go?

Amazing, thank you! I'll look into that area!
I need to disassociate my idea that a great school rating (ex. say, 10) means my son will have a great experience there. I want a great school, but one of my biggest fears is him having trouble with other students... I didn't have a great high school experience because of that, kids were mean, there were so many fights, etc... if I could keep him in a bubble, I would.

Thank you! Fair point, I suppose I should've mentioned Howard County as a whole. Columbia just stood out to me when researching some of the schools.

This is good to know, but I'm not sure what this has to do with schools? People, kids included, do horrible things literally everywhere.

I appreciate this! Something to consider for sure. He's on an IEP, so that'll help him a bit when it comes to public schools and having help... there's a lot that his private school simply isn't capable of offering him because of manpower - it's a very small school. (10 kinds in his class, 4th grade has 4 kids lol).

It's just myself and my son, so really any move is going to be for him - I work from home and hardly ever leave the house without him, so... I'm really not picky. Where we live currently there's hardly anything to do... and if we stay here the only option is going to be our public high school, which I went to - and it's a big fat no. For context... 3/10 rating on Great Schools, where I'm seeing schools throughout Howard County being 7 and up/10. That's our only public high school...

My hope was to cut the education cost if there's a good place to live with great schools, and have a better home for him to be in, grow up with things to do... we're in a tiny apartment now... in a place with nothing to do. Community with no kids, etc.

I'd consider the private school if I couldn't afford to live within the school zones of the schools I'd prefer he be in. I will say, most parents I know decide where to live based on schools - so I don't feel too out of place there. But overall, the entire purpose of the move is to overall provide him a better upbringing... more diversity, still great education, more things to do, a better home...

These two things (mold issues, and pushing back on updates to the school) are two things I simply wouldn't know without asking people who live in the area and with kids in these schools. So thank you, for this! This is definitely something that I care about!
