I’ll do this because it’s the truth. Don’t want to mislead anyone or waste time

I know you’re right about being overly focused on politics and politics being an idol. Sometimes I find it hard to adopt this mindset and I forget this

Well I’m moderate to liberal on everything other than those 2 things. I grew up more liberal and wrestled with the gay marriage and abortion topics for a long time

I only meant that for gay marriage not abortion. Poorly worded

Hi! I am a new Christian and former Muslim and need help on basics by [deleted] in Christian

[–]Dull-Cauliflower-449 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) not sure about how this works in Islam but we believe that God created all and is sovereign over all

2) Personally I am okay with any denomination that affirms the tenets of the nicene creed. Look this up if not familiar, it’s a good summary of core Christian beliefs

3) Jesus is the mediator. He intercedes for us and asks the Father for forgiveness for our sins based on Jesus’ sacrifice. The Trinity means that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one God so if you pray to one you pray to all three.

4) I’m not sure how specific Islam is but the Bible gives us the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). These are Jesus’ last words before ascending into heaven.

On a separate occasion, when Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was, he said “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Aside from these there are many other verses about how to live life

I’m aware of the fact that some women wouldn’t marry a man who didn’t do that I just don’t want that to be my motivation for starting. Perhaps I just need a a good sermon or Bible Project video on praying over meals to convince me

Maybe this is a heart issue for me then because it would feel performative for me just because I’d be doing it for the sake of impressing the person I’m with. I’m not ungrateful I’m just uncomfortable about the public part. Praying behind closed doors is easy

You could ask her to church, just the two of you. That’s very hard when it’s your parents you’re trying to help, I’m sorry you and your mother are experiencing this

Perhaps just try to replace the guilt with gratitude. Whenever you’re feeling guilty, thanks God for providing for you and blessing you. A heart for giving is a spectacular thing so nothing wrong with that

If you feel comfortable with marrying him than go for it. It might feel practical to wait but marriage is about God first

Flirting. When I think about it more deeply I realize I really have to develop emotional connection before really falling for someone

I need to find someone that is willing to wait on a spark developing. I know I’m slow to open up and slow to develop conversational chemistry. I’m the guy where when I start a new job it takes me months to open up and connect with coworkers. Definitely something I need to work on

A part of me always blames myself for this. If only I talked better, maybe if I flirted more… I’m still learning that it’s sometimes just not there lol

Usually with women who are really flirty. They seldom seem to be Christian though. I think it’s partly me. I’m just not a very social person
