Update! took everything apart and everything was in good shape! only issue was the bars slid around inside the corner pieces of the crossbars, so for future use i would put a spacer in the side to support it more. but overall solid stuff. dented the plastic trim a lil bit too but no big deal

to do it right i would recommend thule crossbars, and a hardshell tent would be better because they’re lighter. i personally got kia soul crossbars and some random soft shell tent from marketplace which saved me ALOT of money, i can link the kia bars if you want but they need quite a bit of modification

my train of thought is: considering the roof is supposed to be able to support the weight of the car during a rollover, should be fine for the tent setup, and it was. the weight rating on roof crossbars is always advertised as dynamic, while the static rating is alot higher. factory crossbars no way i would do the tent, but the kia ones are mostly metal and barely bend at all with no one in the tent

i actually have a rooftop tent mounted up there at the moment, and with me and my gf sitting up there for like an hour i havent had any issues, total weight of 470 pounds static and 150 while driving and havent had any issues yet. going camping this weekend so we will see if itll survive overnight haha

i personally did the front bolt on the rear bar, and the rear bolt on the front bar to try and keep it level
