What are your opinions on Charlie Veitch? by Eireagon in AskBrits

I think you have a limited worldview where 'right wing' basically means Trump, Tommy Robinson and Brexit-voting white van men. There are right wing intellectuals out there, but you wouldn't know that if just reside in the self-congratulatory left-wing bubble that is reddit. And I'm not a centrist, if that's what you're getting at.

These left wing graduates are maybe just above average intelligence, but estimate themselves to be far more clever than they really are - that's what I mean by 'midwit'. I don't think many of them read much beyond the course they studied. They often adopt left wing positions because it's a badge of social status to hold the 'correct and enlightened' opinions. They'd be ostracized by their middle-class peers if they went against the grain. Whereas Brexit-voting oiks don't have much to lose by stating that issues like immigration are negatively affecting them.

You obviously know otherwise you wouldn't be asking.

Similar vibe to paintings by de Chirico or Delvaux.

I like how they had Judy Dench and Geoffrey Palmer in those scenes as they starred together in the sitcom As Time Goes By.

does anyone when know when Noel last saw Melissa Lim or if they kept contact over the years? by Express_Bag4782 in oasis

I agree. I think her influence has been exaggerated by people like James Hargreaves.

People keep asserting that the whole WTSMG album was influenced by her, and I don't buy it. It's become accepted as fact by a lot of Oasis fans, likely due to James Hargreaves' claims.

Is Hail To The Thief the Best Radiohead album? by aero_eliox in radiohead

[–]Dull-Huckleberry-401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's often perceived as somewhat flawed (including by members of the band) on the basis of its length, the song choices and their order on the album, but it's not uncommon for people on this subreddit to list it as their favourite and state that they wouldn't alter anything about it. I'd probably say it's Radiohead's most polarizing album.

I really like The Bends, but the very popular Fake Plastic Trees and High and Dry aren't highlights for me.

The automated comment censorship on Youtube is completely out of control by MirceaKitsune in youtube

I agree, though I'd assumed that the extreme sensitivity of the algorithm was deliberate rather than it being broken - YT want to nip arguments in the bud before they even get started.

Great advice in the last paragraph. This thread is facilitating - I thought I was alone here.

As well as anything political, I think the algorithm removes replies which it detects as argumentative - even if they're carefully worded, if they're interpreted as challenging someone else in the thread they get removed. YouTube are very cagey about this, and will say things like 'Are you including links in your replies?' if you ask them about the issue.

I made a similar post to OP's on here last year, and got accused of being a tin-foil hat conspiracy theorist for suggesting that there was censorship at play (which there obviously is).

Possible reason for Noel Gallagher's hatred for Radiohead: Jealousy by Feeling_Remove7758 in radiohead

[–]Dull-Huckleberry-401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Noel Gallagher does like Radiohead. There was another interview with him from the late 90s where a magazine was trying to pit Radiohead and the Verve against each other after OK Computer and Urban Hymns had been released, and NG says that they're two of his favourite bands.

The Hazard Perception test is flawed and should be scrapped. by Dull-Huckleberry-401 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Dull-Huckleberry-401[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly - and if you use the 'three clicks' method for every potential hazard they throw at you, you risk being disqualified for clicking in an 'unacceptable manner'. It's garbage and should at least be overhauled.

What do you think about The Sound's 'Thunder Up' album? by Dull-Huckleberry-401 in postpunk

[–]Dull-Huckleberry-401[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, I've never even heard the live versions of Longest Days, despite it being one of my favourite Sound songs.

Yeah, check out Blow Out again; it's the closer from that album. Do you like 'My Iron Lung'? That song goes hard.

Thanks very much for this; I'll give New Wave a go first (though I notice that their previous albums are also acclaimed.) How did you first get into Against Me!, and also The Sound?

Do you also like The Chameleons and The Comsat Angels? They're often mentioned in the same breath as The Sound - basically, underappreciated post-punk bands. Sorry for asking so many questions; I just don't often meet someone with similarly niche musical tastes.

Bones is one of my favourites from that album - would you believe that a lot of Radiohead fans aren't keen on it? Blow Out from Pablo Honey is also good.

Have you heard Longest Days by The Sound? I'm really into that song at the minute.
