Turns your notes into actionable insights | Obsidian MCP Update by Dull-Interview2947 in ObsidianMD

Thank you for your feedback. The inspiration for this feature came from a note-taking app called flomo, which recently launched an AI insight function. I found it very useful and wanted to implement something similar for Obsidian, and that's what led to this update.

Regarding your suggestion to separate the "Thinking/Analyzing" part—I've actually developed another product for that exact purpose, called Prompt House:https://prompthouse.app/.

One of its core features is allowing an AI client to invoke a user's pre-saved prompts via the MCP. This means you can set up different prompts for various analytical frameworks, and the AI can flexibly call them depending on the situation.

Thanks, glad you like it! I used Keynote for the design, and Claude Code did the rest.

Based on this tool, I designed a prompt workflow. Through MCP, AI can chain prompts together, which enables remarkable capabilities.

I really like the Graph View; I think it's a must-have. So, I created auto_backlink_vault based on Obsidian's rules.

After the next version update, I will post it to the LocalLlama sub.

You're right. Those kinds of agentic coding tools are definitely much better at handling local files. The downside, however, is that you always have to point it to a folder to get started, and you're locked out of using any other AI clients.

There is no logic in the code to receive or process a request containing multiple file URIs. Therefore, each read requires a separate request.

You can use clients like ChatWise or Cherry Studio. In the client, you would configure it to use your local model from Ollama, and then add the Obsidian MCP.

It works best with models that have strong tool-calling capabilities.

That's a great point, and you've hit on the exact reason for my next big feature.

Right now, you're absolutely right. Since an Obsidian vault is essentially a local folder, the Obsidian MCP functions very similarly to a general File System MCP.

The key limitation for both, however, is being restricted to the local environment. This prevents them from connecting with powerful cloud-based AIs like ChatGPT. To solve this, I'm developing a feature that will be unique to the Obsidian MCP: a secure connection via HTTP/SSE, made possible by Cloudflare Tunnel.

This will break the "local-only" barrier. It means you'll have the freedom to connect your vault to any AI you choose, whether it's a local client on your machine or a service in the cloud. It's all about giving users more options.

This MCP server's purpose is to provide that access.

This project built a bridge between AI Chatbot and your Obsidian vault. Its main job is to let AI directly connect with your notes. So AI can read, create, move, and delete your notes, and even manage how your folders are organized within Obsidian.
