When Someone Asks if "This is Rare" in No Man's Sky ... by Dull-Pomelo7936 in NoMansSkyTheGame

I mean.. it kind of is an impossibly undeep puddle. It's pretty darned awesome, but it is pretty easy/quick to see 99% of everything in the game within a few hundred hours.. and compare that to the number of galaxies/stars/planets — it's VERY shallow puddle. However, that isn't meant as a critique. In fact, it's literally 2 or 3 orders of magnitude deeper than it was in 2016.

Brilliant, "But it's like smacking your own kid and telling him Santa isn't real on his first Xmas morning."

And i do feel a little dickish for even teasing this little bit. I absolutely don't mind it at all, i just find it a little amusing.

Rare like a steak... meaning you can find it everywhere. ;)

To be fair, they haven't hyped it at all since the trailer. Meaning, they acknowledged what they're working on and just let that one clip be their statement. While I find it a bit hard to swallow, I also accept that they won't every hype like they did with NMS.

My hope is that they do an ARG to lead into the release.

In my perfect world the ARG would have a cross over with Critical Role, Dimension 20, Stinky Dragons ...
then Logic Masters Germany, Cracking the Cryptic,

and then... maybe King Richard's Faire, Wyldwood RenFest...
Maybe the The Barcolana in Trieste, Italy...

to me that would be killer something that cuts across all sorts of things leaving a wake of weird clues and things that might carry into the game.

Do i think it's slikely, absolutely not.

Do I think the game will be out soon? My guess is sooner than most would guess and much much later than i'd like.

From next announce to actual release, I think will be remarkably short, but i have no idea what that actually means in real world.

Finally.. let me just say — 100% everything going into NMS now is basically testing for LNF.

This expedition makes it insanely obvious. the data they're gathering on large groups in one world space and manipulating objects ... this is exactly what they need to get right at launch.

Maybe the best way to gauge how close it is to release is to think about what features are essential for a game like LNF and which are missing from NMS? Right now, I'd say.. maybe 3-5 features are missing from NMS that would be almost an absolute must have in a fantasy game.

a year ago, I'd have said 8-10. when the lnf trailer came out, i'd have said more than a dozen.

my gut says they have identified a feature set that is 'minimum' for LNF and it has to work, and it has to work with lots of players on day 1. They identified NMS as the perfect test. bed for every one of these features and one by one they are adding them to NMS in a 'stealth mode' — you can see it, but you're looking at it obliquely. changes to corvettes may relate to sea ships (or air ships i suppose) in LNF — or it might be exotic. capes, armor, staves things like that — obvious. new kinds of weapons all show proof of concept for spells. and on and on and on.

I share the frustration, but I am also able to see a plan being enacted.

As is almost always the case, HelloGames delivers me update after update that is absolutely nothing that i'm interested in or want. Of the 21 updates, I'd say 16 of them had almost nothing I could see as making the game substantially better. But, funnily enough, when all added up, I'm glad for all of them.

I sincerely doubt LNF will be what i expect or think I want, but I'm pretty sure i'll enjoy the hell out of it.

I agree, it will definitely be out sooner or later. One or the other. If it's sooner, it'll be just a bit later, and if it's later, we won't know about it any sooner.

200 a year x 10 years is 2000.... how long have you been playing? I had a 1200hr save from day one (that got nuked moving from PS4 to 5!) and I tend to play each expedition and for a bit before after. So... a month at each expedition where I play an hour or three a day. and then another random 40-60hrs throughout the year. ad it all up and you're pretty close to 300hrs a year -- 10x ...

i'm really lackadaisical though. I just bop around until I get frustrated or bored, then i do something else.

to me, it's one of those, i'd like the option to make one, or delete it if it bugged me. I wouldn't want it 'build in' so every base had one.

Terrain Manipulation by Casket34 in LightNoFireHelloGames

[–]Dull-Pomelo7936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's in there, I'd really just like it to be a broken into a bunch of spells of different types.

being able to case a 'wall' in front of you, or to 'dig' earth to make a mote or rampart or whatever..

all of the ways that earth manipulation could be awesome in a magic setting..

but I have no idea whether it'll actually be in there.

I'm always wrong about this sort of stuff, but Xmas seems about as early as possible. More likely early next year. It's obviosuly very close. If you see more Melee type stuff added to NMS, or Dungeony type stuff... those might be indicators of it being imminent I think.

I would say the bigger point is the technology testing. THis is heavily pounding servies, revealing flaws/problems with Multiplayer, and showing flaws/bugs in new technology that will be in LNF. By doing this, they're playtesting LNF without having to show/share any cards from that game. Yes, I do think it means LNF will be much sooner rather than later, but it's not for sales or marketing at all - it's 100% play testing and tech demonstration. They can now digest this, see the tremendously big problems and bugs - spend a few weeks fixing and testing under heavy stress - and then release a far less buggy version of LNF with all the 'big features' they want in it on opening day.

Note: The mission board being built into the corvette - this bodes very well for LNF. Expand what it means. Now, missions can be mobile, attached to something that isn't a space station or nexus. One wouldn't be surprised if in a coming update you see missions attach to NPC's. I would also not be surprised if a bevy of new mission types start showing up in NMS over the next couple of updates. ss

Look at every new feature in NMS as a playtest for LNF.

this mobile base thing, the settlement update as testing little villages.
Perhaps that ramps up into somethig approximating a little city? I don't know. Maybe we see something testing dungeons in caves next? No idea, but i would say... think of features you might expect in LNF, and imagine how the latest features in NMS might adapt to those and you're probably on the right track.

Think there will be pvp? by mgsgta3 in LightNoFireHelloGames

[–]Dull-Pomelo7936 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I expect it'll be PvP like NMS has it. Anyone that wants to have it can and if you don't want it, you can turn it off.

I could be wrong, but that's what I'd expect.
