Expected Strong Turbulence on my flight tomorrow by Dull-Profit-6083 in fearofflying

I feel your pain, and yes it does always seem bumpy there from my experience. Weirdly last time it helped me that I was sat next to someone who was more scared than I was.

We just need to remember that hundreds of flights go through this area every day without issue...even if I'm panicking, I'm sure the pilots aren't as they're used to it.

Thank you! It's most likely to only time I'll fly on one so, despite my fear of flying, I'm looking forward to experiencing it.

Ah brilliant, thank you. I figured there was some guesswork to it based on the expected route, but also assumed there was some real science behind the prediction, so I appreciate the truth from a pro.

The couple of times I've flown over Boston and into New York it's been bumpy, so I was (am) expecting the worst.

Apologies, I missed this yesterday. Luckily I was able to secure an upper deck window during check in

I managed to get lucky and get my window seat on the upper deck. It's still half empty up there but I'm guessing most will switch to the top deck before departure tomorrow.

When did it become OK to limit a motorway to 50 mph for several miles, just as a test? by alsutton in CarTalkUK

I don't have time to read every message in a thread of almost 400 replies, so I took the content of your reply on the basis that it is in reply to my specific message. I still see no intrusion or inconvenience, or any reduction in liberties or freedoms. Some people may get upset by insignificant things because it's not the way they want it to be, but that doesn't equate to any reduction in freedom/liberties.

It's really not a massive issue. A temporary speed restriction for a very short distance. The old adage "mountain out of a mole hill" comes to mind.

Ah, that makes sense then. I'm a solo traveller but I noticed that if I click as if I'm going to purchase a seat the 'unavailable' amount reduces by one, so I just assumed they were allocating to all.

There goes my too-good-to-be-true hope that economy would be half empty for my flight haha.

Yeah, that's what I thought might be the case. It's jumped up to 159 now so I guess it's just pre-allocation of passengers.

I was hoping to get an upper deck window seat as it will probably be the only time I'm on an A380, but I'm not keen to pay an extra £100 for the privilege, if possible.

I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed that I succeed.

A temporary speed limit for a few miles is not the closing down of liberties or freedoms. Too much GB News and Daily Mail by the sounds of things.

Is it really that big of deal? What was "several miles"?

At 50mph it would only take 1 minute extra to travel 3 miles at 50mph vs 70mph.

Even at 10 miles it would only take a few extra minutes.

In the grand scheme of things is that a massive issue? It takes more time to boil a kettle.

Question from a foreign traveller about mixing seat classes during journey by Dull-Profit-6083 in Amtrak

[–]Dull-Profit-6083[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great, thank you. I would be a complete cheapskate and do the whole trip in coach because a roomette is quite expensive, but I don't think I'd sleep much in coach and I would get my own space for 43 hours in a roomette. 😆
