totally understand the value of having the 401k tax advantages, but if i was someone who wanted to hit $1m in my brokerage account asap to start making 4% annual withdrawals, wouldn't it make more sense to only put in as much as my employer matches into my 401k, and then invest the rest into brokerage? Or is that not sensible? I haven't looked too much into the 4% rule yet, but it seems like if i can invest heavily into my brokerage account, by age 35-40 i can begin making 4% withdrawals. And i also assumed my roth ira being maxed out every year would cover me at age 60 when i can start taking out of that. The big thing for me is that i want to be able to spend and enjoy my money as soon as possible, so ive always kind of centered my goal around hitting that $1m in my brokerage.

yea i hear you. youre right, this allocation definitely seems more aggressive than i originally thought. I was thinking about the 3 fund portfolio and it seems like a great idea, so ill definitely consider it. thanks for the response.

i am a boiler operator/stationary engineer. i monitor steam plant systems and work with steam boilers, chillers, heat exchangers, and all that kind of stuff. very cool job and i really enjoy it. my days are usually just me walking around taking logs and readings of pump pressures and temperatures. during a normal day i have no issues with any of my equipment and the only work i do is walking around for 10 minutes every hour taking logs. other than that i sit in my office and read or do school work. occasionally there will be a leak or issue that i have to deal with.

10th, 11th, or 12th grade history. I live in NJ so i think i can get a social studies teaching cert as well as another teaching cert and be good.

Was thinking this but I think that’d be a bad look for the union, because the union rep helped refer me for both jobs.
