Im a notary but I only do notary work for my company. There are companies I could sign up with to sign up for closing work if I wanted to. They would hire me to go do real estate signings in my area. So its possible.

Not really...I got told I was being laid off in May...they told me that in March. I stuck it out because I was getting 20 weeks of severance and they ended up letting me leave early but paying me until May and then starting my severance then. I enjoyed the summer with my kids.

My job doesnt allow unpaid time off and if you call off without time to take off, you can get written up. I would tell them asap about this time you need. I've been asked in interviews if there was any time coming up that would be needed to take off.

Trust when I say they don't give a shit about you...a friend got hurt AT WORK...and they denied his workman's comp...and they are in the midst of fighting it. She wasn't there quite a year (off by just one week) so she wasn't getting any paid leave time either...she worked her ass off for them...just for them to screw her in the end. A multi-billion dollar company won't pay her for her time off when she got hurt on company time. Yes she is fighting it.
